Well, that was a generally delightful night of television! Nick Kroll was on Community! I told a friend yesterday that I was excited that Nick Kroll would be on Community and they said, “THE CAVEMAN?” Hahahah. I genuinely hope for Nick Kroll’s sake that that is how EVERYONE remembers him. The Caveman. Anyway, he was on Community! But his role — the German foosball player — was kind of negligible, I thought. Not bad, but it just didn’t really add anything to the episode. Oh well. Next time, Caveman! The rest of the episode was pretty solid, though. I wasn’t super crazy about the Jeff and Shirley backstory and enjoyed the Abed as Batman plot line a bit more, but they were both delightful enough to make for a good but not great episode. I like Annie’s Batman voice. (I did not like the anime sequences particularly, even though I’ve chosen one above for the image.) Parks and Recreation was also good but not great! I LOVED when Leslie said “gramps” instead of “grants.” That was my #1 favorite moment of the night. I’m also happy that she and Ben can finally love each other for real, but will they get boring like Jim and Pam now?! That is my fear. I don’t suspect that they will (because each of them is more entertaining to watch than Jim and Pam), but it is a fear that I have. I have a lot of them! What I didn’t like about the episode was that the trial seemed to drag and I feel like we all knew what the ending would be anyway so it was just like GET ON WITH IT! But then again I guess it was an important moment in the series so maybe they were right to take their time. Whatever, MORE ANDY! It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was my favorite of the night. All the separate leaving-behinds were great. All of them getting to the theater was great. Frank’s boat tour was the best. And, even though there have been a million seasons of the show and it has Philadelphia in the title, whenever there are shots of actual Philadelphia I can’t help but say “Ah! Philadelphia!” at my TV, because I MISS IT. You guys feel that way too, right? You miss Philadelphia? What did you think of the shows? Was The League good? Was The Office good? How was Robert California’s wife? When you think of Nick Kroll is the first thing that pops into your minds “the caveman”?

You can tell it’s a good night when Community has the weakest episode and yet its episode was still a good one.
Community: B+. Big Cheddar and Tinkletown had sweet moments together. I liked seeing the other side of Shirley—she’s a great character who tends to get shuttled into a background chorus role, and tonight was her best moment of the season. And when Jeff Winger went on and on about how the Germans used the $25 soccer ball as a prop for a one-shot joke, I laughed really hard.
The Batman subplot was more wacky than funny, though (I did like this line: “I know you think you can think your way out of this with your thinkiness, but don’t think too rash”). And what’s happened to Pierce lately? Is he permanently a background player now? Leonard had more lines than Pierce did last night!
Parks and Rec: A-. To: Anne Perkins. From: Leslie Knope. Subject: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I tell you guys when Leslie had that lady read the page on the deposition where Ben tells the court how much he loves her that I kinda, maybe, sorta got a little misty? It was very sweet. So sweet I can forgive pretty much anything else that was off in the episode.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia: A. Guys, this season! This season has been legendary. Dare I say this may be the best season of ASiP ever? It’s just had so many classic episodes! This Thunder Gun Express episode was superb—maybe the best of the season? Mac getting stuck trying to get in the sewer and whining that he’s too “muscular” to squeeze into the sewer had me cough-laughing till my face turned a dangerous hue of red. “We’ll come back for you!” And I’ve been exasperated with Frank this season, but his turn as a tour-boat guide was really funny—his best moment of the season, save perhaps the time he used his Indiana Jones whip to destroy that vase.
Guys, Always Sunny is the funniest show on TV right now.
The Office: I’m not bothering with this show anymore. Although I saw from the ads that NewsRadio’s Lisa Miller aka Maura Tierney was on the show. That just makes me nostalgic for NewsRadio. So good, you guys! Netflix that show.
Instead, I played more Skyrim. I’m now 60+ hours into the game (which also explains why I’ve, uh, not been on Videogum much lately), and I’m not even really near the end, mostly because I divert myself into chasing every quest and every butterfly that comes my way. The game’s got problems—many, including a tendency to crash for me every couple hours—but it is one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played.
YES! Always Sunny is without a doubt the best. I never thought it would get back to it’s amazing self after the last couple of seasons (which were kinda snores by comparison). Guys, shows can get better! Does this mean The Simpsons will actually be great again someday?
If there is not a gif of Fat Mac attempting to steal the motorcycle in “This Week in Gifs” then I don’t know what’s wrong with the world.
Skyrim open thread highjacking! What’s your least favorite animal to encounter. I pretty much run away from any bears or sabre cats, and nothing gets me more upset than a draugr who has a good disarm ability LADIES
Are you having that thing happen where in real life you’re looking at something you can pick up and text appears in front of it telling you what it is, its weight, its worth, and whether or not if you pick it up it’s considered stealing?
Yes! Also every couple of days when I pee my Urination ability level gets raised.
buddaddudum.
I just read about this game! http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7290527/one-night-skyrim-makes-strong-man-crumble
I don’t play video games but this writer is great.
Oh man, I’m so glad that article mentions Dark Souls. I’m still working my way through it (my friend is the one I’ve witnessed playing Skyrim), and that article is absolutely right- You don’t NEED expository dialogue in a video game to enjoy it or make it good, and the lack of explanation in Dark Souls is awesome.
There’s a plethora of information in Dark Souls (every item in the game comes with a description of its uses and a mythological tidbit of information as to its place in the world of Lordran), but none of it is spelled out for you, as knowing everything about the world is not the goal of playing the game. The goal is you need to get the hell out of where you are, and for the first half of the game your mission is to go find and ring two bells. You’re told one is very low, and one is very high, and then once you’ve done that, something will happen.
Deceptively simple, considering getting to those two bells was one of the HARDEST things I’ve ever had to do in a video game.
Plus, the weapons, armor and combat systems kick ass, the level design is so goddamned expansive while being deceptively compact (RE: shortcuts!) it’s crazy, and the atmosphere of moods are breathtaking. The online elements to Dark Souls is to be championed as well, as ghosts of other players will run by you, can leave helpful or deceptive notes for each other, you can inspect bloodstains on the ground and witness how other players died in the area (hopefully to inform you on how to avoid doing so), and players can even invade each others worlds as helpful or hurtful ‘phantoms’ for fun, profit, and to strengthen their respective covenant alliances (there are 9 covenants in the game you can join or abandon).
And back to the crux of the article about Skyrim, concerning it’s expository dialogue and the delivery of said dialogue, I can’t champion Dark Souls sparse-but-never-distracting dialogue enough. The NPCs have made me like them and detest them, and I’ve even been royally creeped out by some of them. you can also kill every NPC in the game, and sometimes I have disliked the attitude of an NPC so much I have plotted and killed them after they’ve outlived their usefulness.
Thanks for the link to that article. It was a good read. Sorry for the long post.
No prob. Bissell is great. I’m a big fan of his fiction and nonfiction, but he has been writing a lot about video games (he has a book about them) and he does a regular column about them for Grantland. I don’t play video games (because I am an adult woman; Bissell: “If you have no idea what the Elder Scrolls franchise is, you are probably either (a) an adult woman…”), but the article was interesting, anyway because of his discussion of the way story lore is conveyed in video games. You should look up some of this other Grantland articles!
That was definitely a Fruit Gushers kid parody at the end, wasn’t it? I laughed so much at that.
Yes! My mouth was literally agape with joy.
Anyone else catch this at the end?

I saw it but didn’t get to read it. UNTIL NOW!
Thank you, Kate!
Who carries their passport around?
I do. I’m always ready for adventure.
Have you ever had one?
No.
Shut up everyone, The Office still shines sometimes.
Agreed. Accent on the sometimes.
Wasn’t that exact line used in another sitcom and kind of recently too? It seemed very familiar.
I love Parks and Rec so much. The stone face guy and the “frozen whore”. Chris Traeger is getting on my nerves a little and there wasn’t enough Tom Haverford, but shutupwhocares because it was very sweet.
I’m making Parks and Rec themed xmas tree ornaments this year.

I should probably get out of the house a little more.
What other ornaments are you making? I love it!
I’m still trying to think of some good P&R ones. Might see if I can get away with Dean-in-the-Moon from Community. You can check here in the next few weeks: http://www.cafepress.com/kittenpants/6222904
I love your camouflaged ornament! I’ll be back to look for more!
I didn’t get the reference at first, and now, MUCH later in the day, I’ve read up on many of the denizens of Pawnee, thanks to the wiki page entitled “Characters of Parks and Recreation.”
Is it the weekend yet? I want work to be over!
I would pay for that on a t shirt.
I sat in gum.
I wish there was a word to describe the pleasure I feel at viewing other’s misfortune.
One of my favorite jokes of the night, if only because I yelled “I know that word! It’s also German! I get it!”
Yes! It’s hassenpfeffer!! Right?
tannenbaum?
No no no kartoffelpufen.
taschenrechner.
tnetennba?
Annie’s Batman voice is exactly why Christopher Nolan’s otherwise great Batman films make me LOL. Christian Bale’s voice is fucking silly!
You are Batman now.
Annie…. Darko?
Annie’s Batman voice was definitely my favorite part of the night. Too. Freakin. Cute.
Anyone who thinks “Cavemen” when they think Nick Kroll are the same people who think “Hamlet” when they think of Mel Gibson.
I was telling my husband that Nick Kroll was on Conan telling a story about how he pooped his pants, and my husband said “I don’t know who Nick Kroll is”. I replied, “Yes you do.” Then he said, “Is he the guy with glasses?” “Yes, yes he is.” I don’t really know how to end that story, but there it is.
I always get him confused with Fabrice Fabrice
Has anyone slipped on magazines/several sheets of paper before? It can be REALLY slippery. I totally empathized with Abed in this gif. DAMN those magazines! Now my cape and cowl’s torn!
Not enough Britta last night!
But what a great line tho!
“It’s a Totarolla.” Later: “They come in a six-pack.”
It was literally a BURNER.

“BIG CHEDDAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!”
“TINKLETOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWN!!!!”
is the new
“TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
“KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”
And sorry I doubled this. My bad. Let’s just go with it was worth posting twice?
Strangely for Community, which had posted all of the tweets from the moving episode as if they were really moving ie during the day, Leonard’s frozen pizza reviews do not seem to exist on Youtube?
OMG, NBC is selling these:

Sooooo tempted.
And I just learned how to use iMovie!
I have never wanted to be Leslie Knope more in my life.
Because of her mad iMovie skills or that she hooked up with Ben? Because I’m morstjealous of the latter…
Bones Corner:

Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. Gary Gergich. Jerry Gergich. God, they’re both horrible.
I heartily enjoy all anime parodies (like the two South Park episodes (‘Chinpokomon’ & ‘Good Times with Weapons’ ). Anime can be VERY silly and strange, and the English dubbing (especially if its old), is often times unintentionally hilarious.
The BEST thing that ever came out of the Clerks cartoon was where the joke was the remainder of an episode had to be animated by a Korean studio, and it switched to a faux anime style. A transformer rolls up to the QuickStop and turns into a car and Dante and Randall jump in the back seat, only to discover a cute bear is driving the car (“WHO IS DRIVING?!” “BEAR IS DRIVING!” “THAT’S NOT RIGHT!!!”), then the sports car rolls up to City Hall and turns back into a Transformer, crushing Dante, Randall and Bear inside it with blood pouring out of all its seams.
I always think of this. Remember this, guys? Maybe?
“Hey Stinko-Man, everyone says you’re the guy, but, I wanna be the guy too!”
“Hahaha. No way! You’re just a kid! Maybe when you’re older!”
Twenty Exsty Six! (20X6)
Probably!
I LOVED that scene in the Clerks animated series.
Bear is driving! How can that be?

I had forgotten about the Tom Cruise bit. “Tom Cruise! You want truth? You can’t handle truth!”
Best part of the night for me was Troy humming the music from the Halloween episode. That little ditty has been running through my head all day. Is there a gif of him locking the door to the blanket fort? I’m looking at you, Concert_Addict.
I have one of him humming. Is this acceptable?

Very much so. “Concert_Addict is Batman now.” – Christian Bale

Close enough

The Office needs to ditch Robert California NOW, or at least make him as minimal as possible. When Michael left, the show became so much easier to watch. It was funny without being mean spirited and uncomfortable. Then they decided that they needed to make it hard to watch again, so they brought in Robert California. His bits are not funny, they ruin the pacing of the show, and they are not in any way redeeming. They’re worse than Michael moments, because at least Michael had that doofus thing going for him and had some humanity. When the show first started, the uncomfortable tension was one of the best things about the show, but now it is forced and dehumanizing. I liked the Darryl and Dwight subplot.
Also, what a waste of Maura Tierney. She just stood there and made weird faces (how weird do her lips look?)
I agree, I don’t watch because of Robert California.
“Frank ‘ThunderGunned’ the shit out of us!”
Always Sunny was great last night, possibly even better than Community (which I thought was pretty solid.)
“Never Surrender. Never Surrender.” *oh shit*
“I surrender!”
What happened to Annie’s bedroom?!
Did you guys catch Abed in the flashback?!?!?!?
I didn’t, but Twitter showed it to me!
Wouldn’t Abed have had to be, like, 3 years old though? I’m thinking he’s roughly 10 years younger than Shirley and Jeff (mid-20′s-ish), so if Shirley was 14 Abed would not have been that old. Plus it doesn’t really look like him. Unless it turns out Abed is actually much older than he seems, like Kenneth from 30 Rock.
This. I was thinking the same thing. But Danny Pudi is actually 32, so he is a little like Kenneth (that still makes him 8 years younger than Shirley and Jeff– they’re both 40 in the real world). Allison Brie is the youngest person on the show at 27 (Thank you wikipedia!)
As Dan Harmon has pointed out before: because Community is so clever and self-referential, people often assume it is doing something on purpose when it is not (episodes 303 and 304 are out of order, and people thought that it had to do with the Remedial Chaos Theory plot, even though it was just due to production schedules).
But that kid is adorable!
