I’m still excited about seeing Wendy And Lucy, especially with all the commenters who thought it was amazing, but trusted blogger Thighs Wide Shut gives me a little pause (paws? groan!) about the potential glacial slowness and nothing-really-happeningness in this quiet movie about Michelle Williams and her lost dog. Mostly, this review just made me laugh, and will continue to even if I disagree about the film:
Trailer alot like SherryBaby’s, cause it be touting the brave acting performance over everything, that cause there aint nuttin else. Is movie Arty? Yes. Boring? As balls! If see, bring pillow, but no need bring sleep medicine.
Ugh, SherryBaby, I hate that kind of movie (see also: Waitress.) I’m still going to see Wendy And Lucy, in the hopes that Thighs Wide Shut Just Didn’t Get It, but that doesn’t mean I’m not adding “boring as balls” to my vocabulary.

old joy is one of my all time favorite films (see citation: my facebook profile)
i’m pretty excited about this one.
of course it’s boring — it’s by the same chick who did Old Joy, which is the reason all indie film making should stop now. also, does anyone else see how Michelle Williams is two jowls away from being the Waitress on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
I’m gonna go on a limb and say Thighs Wide Shut Didn’t Get It. “Wendy and Lucy” is not for everyone. A lot of my friends were excited to see it when it came here during our local film festival, and some of them fell asleep.
Also, since when are balls boring? Balls can be quite exciting, especially if they’re the neon pink, high-bouncing kind you buy at candy stores.
All of Kelly Reichardt’s movies are slow. They’re very meditative and minimalist pieces that force the viewer to focus on the subtleties of human interactions and relationships. Not everyone is going to like it. For my part I see nothing wrong with challenging the viewer to go at the pace the story sets up rather than be catered to with a constant barrage of plot and action (not that I don’t enjoy those movies either). Old Joy and Wendy and Lucy are just different though, and some people will get it, and some won’t. Big effing surprise.
Anyway, Lindsay, definitely do not give up on this film yet. If you haven’t see Old Joy already I urge you strongly to watch it because it’s beautiful and just very well done.
I was actually surprised at how not-boring it was. I thought it moved along very nicely, and was short (on top of being amazingly brilliant). There’s this really creepy scene with a guy in a forest, and an awesome security guard! All you could really wish for in a movie.
I trust Thighs more than most reviewers but he isn’t a big fan of slow movies in general (unless they’re by Kubrick for some reason). Actually, maybe i don’t trust him but his reviews are hands down the most entertaining Mt. Everest. Hmm. I liked Old Joy, but I don’t remember much of it except for Will Oldham smoking pot and looking sad. Maybe he’s right about this one.
Boring? I didn’t think so. Simple, yes, but I found it engaging through all 80 minutes.
