Tonya from The Real World: Chicago is suing the show’s creators, alleging that they willfully ignored repeated sexual assaults that took place during the show. Eek! Between this and the Johnny’s Bananas lawsuit, The Real World is OUT OF ORDER.

  1. You know what? That happens sometimes. Life’s not always fair. Just like in the REAL WORLD.

    Can’t say she wasn’t warned.

  2. “Hahaha! That’s cute! She’s getting upset over that.” – Jersey Shore

  3. Maybe this will finally get the show cancelled.

  4. Why did I read the comments at TMZ? If you will excuse me, I need to find and drink all the alcohol until the past ten minutes are wiped from my memory irrevocably.

  5. Was it the real world? Or real real world?

  6. dear videogum,

the site says my comments are “awaiting moderation”…is this a new thing? and could you explain the rules?

    • Did you just use the “look what she’s wearing” defense?

    • Wow, this really won’t make worst comment, but sincerely is worse than any trolling or differences in political ideologies. Just GTFO with your slut shaming dude. Clean it up.

      • my bad. not trying to use the “look what she’s wearing” defense. that’s gross.
being assaulted with a toothbrush is gross.
but also, she’s just kind of a gross person too. i mean, you’ve seen those shows on MTV right? she’s a nightmare. also, she makes softcore Skinemax porn.
i guess i learned a lesson here…just because gross things happen to gross people, it doesn’t make the grossness any less gross.

        • “that was one time!” – hot dog girl from Mean Girls

        • See, this is what I meant to allude to below.

KO is kind of an example of how some people just need to be corrected/educated/informed that they said something offensive and they will apologize and learn something. I feel like sometimes activists are so tired of dealing with the same shit over and over again that they just rebuke without informing or educating and that’s not how you improve people.

(not that I’m saying KO is a serial sexist, but that they way he(?) reacted should be applauded)

        • Yes she looks gross. Actually she looks like the plot of a Lifetime movie.

But no one — not even some drunk porny ick girl who signs her life away to MTV or the Bachelor any of these horrible programs — should be assaulted. That’s horrifying. That there were people there who could have stopped it and didn’t is incomprehensible.

She’s gross (well she seems gross, I haven’t watched the Real World since the Hawaii season) but it’s unfair to use her overall ickiness as a contributing factor for what happened. Assault is assault.

      • While I agree with the purpose of the whole “slut walk” movement – it is sexist and gross to say a woman’s appearance is at any way responsible for sexual harrassment and/or assault, all responsibility lies with the perpatrator – I’m always a little confused by the effort to claim ‘slut’ back. Fine, you’re a slut? You can have it.

But also, win flies with sugar maybe? I’m also torn between the need to rationally engage with people who do something rooted in prejudice and the exhaustion activists have of running into the same defenses over and over again. I’ve seen a lot of people say how it’s not their job to educate the ruling class on why certain systems are racist/sexist/etc. But, for example, if a liberal, upper middle class straight white male disagrees, while still not expressing conscious racism/sexism/etc, why would he look for proof that his life is based on the mistreatment of others? Why not simply engage those who wish to engage peacefully and in good faith?

Sorry, this is incredibly off topic, and it’s half-sparked from an issue i saw somewhere else. Carry on.

  8. Anybody else still watch the Real World?

Isn’t Frank CRAZY!?!?! Like if anybody should be suing Bunim/Murray it should be all of this year’s cast members except for Frank. Much like Hooch, Frank is CRAAAAAZY.

Also that other guy is very red all of the time. He must be so embarrassed.

Also that girl who got in a fight about holding hands…THIS IS GOOD TV PEOPLE!

  10. She’s saying they stood by and filmed while male cast members molested and raped her passed out body with a toothbrush. Then, instead of telling her, the crew replaced the toothbrush.

I’m going to pass on the jokes this time. This is just gross. The show’s people have been adament that they don’t interfere unless a cast member is in danger, and that the only sober people in the room wouldn’t stop someone from being seriously molested is icky and they should be ashamed. You can’t use footage of toothbrush-rape on MTV, might as well not let it happen, maybe?

    • Yeah, I’m disgusted that anyone is making jokes about this. I don’t support people whining about how they were portrayed on a reality show because they know they are signing up to be in the public eye and edited to suit what the producers feel is “quality” television.

This does not waive a person’s right to personal safety. How horrible that the crew, who I assume are all adults, stood by and let this happen. Not to mention the people that did that. Gross.
