OCCUPY BLOG STREET! Get it? I’m making a lazy joke that doesn’t even really make any sense and some might say does not actually constitute a joke, based on a genuinely meaningful and important people’s movement that is finally bringing into question some of the structures of capitalism that for so long have gone unexamined by people not locked behind closed doors and hidden by cigar smoke. Although, while my “joke” was stupid and kind of unnecessary, it’s certainly no worse than this video called “Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street.” Really, boys? Good work. Close call. This protest almost came to its logical conclusion WITHOUT objectifying women. Phew. Let’s all take the weekend to celebrate this incredible and important accomplishment.

I like how she assumes that any woman, upon catching her husband looking at suggestive photos of a 16-year old, is going to immediately be upset with the underage girl.

Well, that certainly is one way to interpret the situation. Also, and this might just be my super repressed midwestern lutheran upbringing leaking through, but if my mother ever described me as sexy I would set myself on fire. That just seems weird! Whatever happened to backhanded compliments, like “You could be so pretty if you did your makeup and cut your hair”. Moms today, sheesh.

To me, the most insane part of this story is when Hugh Jackman implies that he got out of his seat to go to the bathroom.

[Assoc. Ed. Note: Spot on, facetaco! A perfect Hugh Jackman pees his pants joke. You should be proud, for real. Jeremy Donovan, I didn't pick up on that during the episode but then saw it in the comments and then on the internet and it is craaaaazy. I can't imagine that it is something that was really planned? But then again maybe it must have been. Who knows. Great show. The rest of you: Also very good. Enjoy your victory weekend. "Treat Yourself."]

This is sofa king stupid…

Kanye West doesn’t have the right to go to Occupy Wall Street now? Really? And Kanye West is being criticized for something Russell Simmons said? As clear as I can tell, Kanye didn’t say a word during that piece, and didn’t even nod while Russell was talking about how inevitable it was that Kanye would have to do a media appearance that basically involved him not saying anything.

But I get it, Kanye is an easy target. Kanye is gonna get more pageviews than Russell Simmons. So let’s call Kanye out for something he didn’t say while doing something that theoretically everyone wanted Radiohead to do last week. #bitchplease

Posted in: Hey, Kanye West, You’re Occupying Wall Street Wrong!

[Ed. Note: I don't know why this was the lowest rated comment this week, because I mostly agree with you. Perhaps it was your use of the word "bitch," which was probably unnecessary. Or your comment about Radiohead, because that's actually just nonsense. Everyone likes Radiohead and everyone likes Kanye West, they're not sitting at two opposite ends of any spectrum. It's all wildly successful and accessible pop music. That being said, there was a lot of criticism on the Internet of Kanye's appearance at the rally that I think was way more misguided than this criticism. Like, people were really upset that he wore expensive clothing and gaudy jewelry, as if somehow he was supposed to hide the fact that he's an internationally famous multi-millionaire. And the one point that you didn't make that I think is the most important is that Kanye West is in no way even remotely responsible for the thing that Occupy Wall Street is protesting. He's not behind the pan-global machinations of capitalist greed, and although he has more money than most people, it's not due to amoral market manipulations. (Not to mention the fact that Occupy Wall Street shouldn't be, and I don't think anyone really thinks it is, about individual wealth. There are certainly "criminals" in this system, but it's the system itself that needs re-evaluating. Picking one person or another to complain about is going to take a long time and make things VERY confusing.) But what Russell Simmons said ON BEHALF OF KANYE WEST was actually completely wrong and kind of a stupid/bad message to put out there. And Kanye didn't interrupt him and say, Hey, no, please don't put those words in my mouth. He continued to not say anything. So the idea that somehow this is not open for criticism is ridiculous. It totally is. So what are you talking about? Something something Fleet Foxes, bitch.]

[Assoc. Ed. Note: This was a great comment in response to a great video. The monkey bath video. Maybe we should all go and watch the monkey bath video again? Just one more time. What the hell, right? Come on. Come on, Jeb.]

  1. It’s Friday, let’s dancey dance

  2. Good week everyone? Good week everyone! Have a great weekend, see you on the flip side (the flip side is monday)

(Also, Boo to you, facebook connect! Boo to you forever!)

  3. i’m fucking tired. home time is nap time. but tomorrow….?

  4. Hey guys! Keep up with Bookgum! Infinite Jest! Read by Nov 4!

  5. GODDAMN SON OF A MOTHERFUCKING BITCH. I was trying so hard to stay spoiler free from Breaking Bad! I stopped going to several sites and anytime I saw the words “Breaking Bad” I would close the browser or turn off whatever I was listening to or watching! FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKK.

    • I can Eternal Sunshine the spoiler out of you for a price, Mark Ruffalo and Kirsten Dunst need to dance in their underwear while I do it

    • Pretty much. #onlyonseason3

      • LIke, not to be an asshole about this – I know the risks of going on the pop culture sites while also trying to avoid spoilers about the Internet’s most discussed show – but…this site almost always puts spoilers below the fold and just an hour ago warned us from going in the gifs thread, but didn’t think to put a heads up here?

        • If it’s any consolation the whole season kind of builds up to it in expert Breaking Bad style. How it’s done should still be fresh and exciting. There’s 2 other ”reveals” that are a lot more satisfying on that episode alone.

The scene from which the image is composed is actually the hokiest, most b-movie scene in the history of the show. Not to give it away but I kind of wish I knew how it went down since that scene is a permanent marker-wang-doodle on a Picasso of a show.

          • you’re so wrong

          • So Lost having some weird spiritual thing at the end sprinkled into a bunch of stuff that was already scifi, fantasy, magical realism, etc was lame but the Breaking Bad [omitted for spoliers] was rad? You are a hypocrite Steve Winwood, a Hypocrite!!

Like I said, the finale was great, I just didn’t care for that scene.

          • LOST was always bad (except for the constant episode) and that series finale was very consistent with LOST’s overall uniform suckiness.

Breaking Bad has always been rad and the season finale was consistent with its uniform radness.

            Hypocrisy charges dismissed.

          • Alright, but I’m watching you.

    • Don’t worry dude. Spoilers make stories better. SOURCE!

If it makes you feel better I just watched the two episodes of The Wire last week (for the first time) and then I found out (name redacted) dies. Pretty upset.

    • I have never watched Breaking Bad because a) I live in Australia now, where we don’t get American tv shows until at least 5 years after they originally air and b) that kid in it looks EXACTLY like Colin Edwards (the MotoGP racer) and it creeps me out a little bit.

Also–look, everybody! I have internet again after like 6 months! Don’t ask me how much I’m paying for this shit.

  6. I think the worst commentator of the week status award should go to every one who suggested the Breaking Bad finale was some how unsatisfying. Those people – you people if you are one of them and you are reading this note – are the worst and should be rebuked and reprehended for this opinion. That finale was in fact quite rad to the hella.

In other news: I am excited about the next Pedro Almodovar (sp?) movie. Sounds like a remake of that one horror film that might have been french and might have been from the 1960s about the experimental face transplant thing. Cant remember what it was called. ANYHOO – having said that, I am psyched for this. I loved that Bad Education movie and pretty much all his movies. Dude is rad and this is something to look forward to, frankly.

    I rest my case.

    • Agreed. What do you think of Julio Medem?

      • I dont remember seeing sex and lucia but according to the quickster web zone I rated it one star, dont remember ever renting this or seeing it but I must not have liked it at the time

    • Wait, I agree on Almodovar not the first thing.

    • People who are unsatisfied by TV shows they like because the plot does something they were not expecting or didn’t want deserve to sit through every episode of Frasier after Niles and Daphne hook up. Go watch a show where every tension is released just the way you like it. Go complain about the Sopranos ending, the best ending on TV EVER while you’re at it.

      • I don’t get your point. When did it become a bad thing to have an opinion on a show?

        • Also, while the sopranos ending was great (tony was killed, no duh), I prefer the ending of 6 feet under.

        • It is not bad, and the point “I didn’t like that resolution” is fine one actually. If the point is “here’s why the resolution didn’t appeal to me” then fine. If a song ends on a suspended note, I can understand the audience wanting that resolved. But then they go home and forget about it. It was just the ending, and the rest of the song doesn’t need to be ignored because that one note. Season 4 was amazing. If the ending left you sour, fine, but that doesn’t merit 1) Giving up on the show entirely or 2) complaining about how the show ‘jumped the shark’ (I hope this phrase dies someday) especially when it clearly didn’t, and especially when the show follows the same exact direction it has since the first episode.

As if the show owes the audience the resolution they want. It doesn’t owe the audience anything. After years of being coddled by sitcom romances, I think there are a number of people out there who want to Choose Your Own Adventure their favourite shows. I never said people shouldn’t have opinions. But some people’s opinions are wrong. SO wrong. Especially regarding Breaking Bad. Which is the best. I guess I feel that complaining about the best show is crazy. Seriously, how are you complaining.

    • I’m late, I know, but Winwood, I think you’re thinking of Eyes Without a Face, and if so, I agree and thought the same thing when I saw the first images from that movie. I’m very excited to see it!

      • Thanks, “berightback” I think this is the movie I was thinking of. However I coulda swore I was thinking of a color movie and this is black and white. Somebody’s trippin’.

  7. Who’s ready for the weekeeeeeeend?

  8. Just to add to the Kanye thing. While a lot of the time, people will fall back on the “don’t judge them for something said just because they didn’t interupt the person saying it” argument, but when the thing you are likely most known for IS interupting someone …

  9. Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see.

  10. but…that Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street video is incredibly beautiful and poignant. I am not joking. It’s a video about the movement that uses a sensationalist title to get viewers.

Or did we all know that and you were being sarcastic?
