I’ve mentioned this before, but I am not a person who knows anything about art. Art looks nice sometimes, sure, and I will go to a museum and walk around with you if we must, and I stood in line for 2.5 hours to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met which I think counts as art, and I definitely went to the Marina Abramović restrospective when it was at the MOMA because who in their right mind would give up the chance to look at naked people IRL, but generally I have no idea. Generally, other than those VERY well informed things that I just said, I have no idea about art if you can even believe it.  (As an aside here, does the new St. Vincent video count as art? Because I definitely love that!!) Anyway, so, this video you are about to watch is of some art and guys, I don’t know what is going on with it. I apologize in advance for having you watch it. But it’s an exhibit that was featured at the 2011 Arnhem Mode Biennale and it is of a sleeping wax woman and let’s just look at it together I guess.

So uh, what was your favorite part about it? This was my favorite part about it:

EEK! ART! EEK ART! EEKART! (Via LaughingSquid.)

  1. I am not sure I understand cenobite art.

  2. This is weird because I just packed a sleeping wax woman in my go-bag in case the hurricane knocks out my power.

  3. What is going on with this is the new where do you get your ideas.

  4. ACK! ART! ACK!

    • never change, deej

      • A wise man once said to me “if you find something in life that makes you happy, grab on to it and the hell with the consequences!”

That man was later arrested for a crime so horrifying I can’t even begin to describe… I mean, I still have nightmares to this day.

I forgot was I was trying to say. Oh yeah: ACK!

  5. So that’s what James Franco’s work looks like

  6. OMG it’s Zelda from Pet Cemetery! And your family left you with her while they went on vacation.

  7. Did Videogum’s mission statement change today? Did Crispin Glover and Eli Roth take over for Gabe and Kelly?

  8. I’m pretty sure I saw that person at Pompeii

  9. A sleeping wax person on fire that kills the unfortunate guard who has to light the candle wicks and blow them out at night would make an amazing Dr. Who monster. Especially if they kill that guard by turning HIM into a scary sleeping wax figure.

Did I mention I like that show? Because I do.

  10. Wax on, wax off, wax ON FIRE OH NO

  11. I particularly like the background music. And the abandoned warehouse setting. And the slow zoom-in. And the way her hair’s literally melting into the pillow. Very calm. Very relaxing. I’l be watching this every night before I go to sleep for always.

  12. This made me think of those Pilgrim days of the Internet where you’d receive an e-mail saying ‘Watch this video and be sure to look for the ghost that appears! Watch very, very closely and turn your volume way up, as some say you can actually HEAR the whispers of the ghost as it comes into view!’ And then you’d sit there watching an empty room for two and a half minutes before some goofy ghost face suddenly appeared along with the sound of a piercing scream. Ha-ha, oh Internet, ya done fooled me! … My point is I kept expecting the wax woman to open her eyes and scream at me. Brr.

  13. I don’t know; I definitely think that’s really pretty! Think of it as a sculpture. And it’s kind of sad because the sculpture will be ruined in a few hours. So it’s very heavy time investment into something very temporary, ruined only for its own sake. As someone who is very previous about his art and his work, that’s a scary thought.

  14. This is pretty, and a little like something from the Haunted Mansion at my favorite place on earth.

  15. If you want me to finish reading a post, you definitely can’t include a parenthetical St. Vincent link halfway through. People get distracted by those things and it’s not their fault because she’s really pretty and talented, you know?

  16. Kelly, I went to the Marina Abramović exhibit too! But I was too shy to walk between the naked people…
