Everyone has their own 9-11 story if they were alive on 9-11 and are from the United States of America. Gabe has told his story on Videogum before, I think. Or maybe he just hinted at the fact that he did have a story, like everyone does, and then didn’t get into it. I forget but I do remember that he mentioned it once. My story: I was in math class during freshman year of high school. It was Algebra 1, which was a class I didn’t do very well in for a long time despite the fact that I had taken it in 8th grade. I had a Jello Biafra campaign poster on my math notebook that the boy in front of me, who was actually my friend, once tore off of it and threw out the window. I laughed with him about it at the time even though it made me very sad because WTF that was my thing that I liked and printed out and taped on to my math notebook on purpose, you jerk. So anyway, that’s my story. I was in math class. Feel free to tell your kids about it when you go home. If they don’t understand it, maybe you can also buy them this 9-11 cartoon DVD that Mike Huckabee made for them.
Finally, 9-11 for OUR generation. It’s a little hard to explain my upset feelings about this because, yes, children should certainly learn about 9-11 and children like cartoons and children love cartoon versions of Saddam Hussein and cartoon explanations of death and murder and war and that “NO!” guy right before the planes hit the towers is spot on, but it does seem a little off. And I think that is coming not from the fact that it is a part of a series of cartoon videos Mike Huckabee is selling to fight against what kids are taught in schools, which is “often filled with misrepresentations, including historical inaccuracies, personal biases and political correctness,” and is clearly just a fun way to spread gross personal and political bias including, I’m sure, historical inaccuracies of its own, but instead it is coming from the pop-up talking Mike Huckabee that talks at you for like an hour and a half when you go to the website for these videos. That is too long for a talking pop-up! What are you thinking! That is ridiculous! (Via BuzzFeed.)

Thank God, Janet Jackson circa “Poetic Justice” was on the scene to walk us through one of our nation’s darkest moments.

I actually think that’s one of the “Bratz.”
Sure sounded like one.
It was a tragic day for our entire Rhythm Nation.
I can’t upvote this for some reason but I broke my month-ish-long posting drought to commend you.
You’re the Josh Hartnett of Monsters.
Was that movie called Poetic Justice because her name was Justice, and she was a poet?
Lew Zealand: got it in one.
This is exactly right. Plus Lauryn Hill’s face circa Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
Script: “Look at the police and firefighters getting right in the middle of it”
Cut from the script: “They’re really gonna regret that when we cut off funding for their health care!”
Also, Bin-Laden spoke remarkably good English.
It’s strange that a bunch of America haters in a desert on the other side of the world would choose to communicate in English with a Fred Armisen-style accent.
“Live from New York, it’s 9/11!”
#badtaste? #badtaste.
Keyword: “Spoke”
Man, I don’t know what Adult Swim is up to these days.
I think this is great. Because there were no cartoons like this when I was a kid, I didn’t understand how the US became involved in WWII until I was 28.
WHOA! There was a second world war?
I’d love to hear Gabe’s 9/11 story, sure. But what I’d really like to hear from him is: What was the Battle of Wittstock like? You know, the one between the Swedish and the Germans in 1636, during the Thirty Year’s War. It must have been b-a-n-a-n-a-s.
easy…Johnny Bananas might slap you with a lawsuit.
A lot of times, you hear veterans describe war this way. “All night their canons thundered, earth and air shattering around us with each impact as if the sky rained death itself. Until the first tint of dawn crept through the acrid smoke, and the canons fell silent. But it wasn’t over. Because then came the stamp of their boots through muck, as they crossed no-man’s land for our trench, ten thousand bayonets sparking in the gloom. And we realized, NOW shit would get bananas.”
I swear to dog I was gonna post this same thing, then chose not too. Damn if it wasn’t the wrong choice, because it was funny when I read your version.

It had something to do with a Scottish rock band, right?
9/11 was an intern job.
Is that so, Mr. MIKE HUCKABEAST?!
No–!!
And this is how we explain to children that the war on terror is why we have no money left to spend on animation…
I’m all for fighting historical inaccuracies and misrepresentations in our school system. Maybe we should start with the baffling and (probably) right-wing biased decision in Texas to pretend that Thomas Jefferson never existed. We’ll work our way forward from there.
Wait what? and why? and how? theres just so…many…questions…
Jefferson true story: if you visit the Jefferson monument in DC, inscribed within it prominently is this quote: “I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” Great quote! Here’s the full version, somehow NOT appearing at the monument:
“The clergy believe that any portion of power confided to me will be exerted in opposition to their schemes. And they believe rightly, for I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.”
Jefferson is not useful to teach, if your goal isn’t to understand history but to invent and push the idea that America is the Ultimate Jesus Nation.
ENHANCE

Oh no.
Considering what they did with The Dark Knight Rises trailer, I’m a little disappointed the Taiwanese couldn’t come up with a more creative interpretation of our nation’s loss of innocence.
Probably too delicious to mention
so, i guess, even homeschool teachers get lazy and just put on videos, too?
“Today, class, we’re learning about cleaning your room. NOW.” — Every lesson, if I’d been homeschooled.
Thoughts:
- The phrase ‘Taking pride in America’s past’ makes me feel gross.
- Oh good, Time Cycle Academy endorses this product. That’s good.
- ‘NO!’ An understandable response.
- ‘Who would do something like this?!’ Good question. To the Time Cycles!
- The animation reminds me of both Ralph Bakshi and a shitty Dreamcast game.
- I had no idea Middle Eastern terrorists sounded so white when cheering. Education!
- Please tell me this video goes into a little more detail about United 93 than ‘some of the passengers … decided to fight back’. Maybe provide just a BIT more info.
- UM, WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE KIDS AND THE TRAINED FLY? HELLO?
- Here’s our plan: Stop ‘em. Just make it happen.
- I had no idea Saddam Hussein made a cameo appearance in ‘Waking Life Too’.
- ‘… AND his money’. Yeah, no money for you, Trust Fund Laden.
- Ma’am, stop talking at your podium because we’re trying to watch President Bush on this television.
- Oh so is this actually about awesome Time Cycles that you ride through time? Because cool!
- Harry Potter and the War on Terror: A Time Cycle Tale
“Here’s our plan: Stop ‘em. Just make it happen.”
Sounds like a pretty accurate description of the plan, actually.
Mike Huckabee’s 9/11 4 Kidz is the new 9/11
You were starting high school in 2001? Jesus Christ, Kelly, are you even old enough to be on the internet? Where the hell is your mother?
All I got from this post is that I’m apparently the same age as Kelly. Hi Kelly!
On a semi-serious note, there is actually a short animated film available on the Internet designed to explain 9-11 to kids. There’s a website called BrainPOP that has a zillion edutainment videos, games, etc, that my kids were introduced to from school. I assumed I would hate this site, it but it’s actually great, and they have a “What happened on September 11?” animated short. Simple and direct, without talking down to kids or pulling out emotional blackmail or over the top patriotism. My husband and I actually got a bit choked up watching our kids watching it. No I don’t work for BrainPOP, but as soon as I saw this post, I thought of this.
I just watched it and it was pretty good. Very straightforward. The animation was VERY primitive and reminded me of early episodes of the ‘How It Should Have Ended’ series of comedy videos.
Also, I found the part about mourning/celebrating our heroes interesting because it shows someone at leaving a pie:

9-11: definitely Not How It Should Have Ended.
*disapproving Glee gif*
I too was a freshman in high school the day the laughter died (that’s what we call it right?) so that means I too am the same age as Kelly. It’s like we’re siblings!
I was just entering middle school when everything changed forever, it’s like I’m the Dil to your Tommy Pickles
I was hoping for an experience more akin to 9/11 the Musical but we can’t expect genius from everyone
I am so sick of these right wing creeps. Stay the hell away from the kids I’m never having, creeps.
The “wow, look at the police and fire fighters” voice is a fairly good imitation of Hank Hill’s voice.
It’s a good thing they didn’t use any New York accents in this video, since all New Yorkers (except the ones killed on 9/11) are pro-gay socialist atheists who hate America.
