The Hawthorne Country Day School is a long-running program in the New York area dedicated to educating children with serious disabilities. From their website:

The Hawthorne Foundation is a private, not-for-profit organization that has for over 28 years provided an education to children who are challenged by serious disabilities. In 1981, the Margaret Chapman school (predecessor to Hawthorne Country Day School), became the first ABA (applied behavior analysis) based educational program to provide services to children who were diagnosed with severe developmental disabilities, autism, and other behavior disorders. HCDS is the longest running and most successful ABA program in New York State. Over subsequent years, we have expanded our programs to include a full continuum of care for children, birth to adulthood.

They also operate group homes and day habilitation programs for adults with disabilities. All in all, this seems like a good foundation! If nothing else, their students have given us our latest summer jam: “Get Your Foot Off My Foot,” which deals with the common problem we have all faced at one point or another in our lives, when someone has their foot on your foot, and you want them to get their foot off of your foot. STORIES FROM THE STREETS!

In general, I try not to step on any toes. Literally! But I have a feeling that I’m going to spend the rest of the summer walking all over people’s feet just to see if they even know what is up. (Thanks for the tip, Sammy.)

  18. Usually, I’m all for making fun of whatever it is we make fun of, (Gwyneth crotchshots, I see you!) but I think this is a little to far? Like if you’ve ever spent time with kids with disabilities you’d know how hard it was for them to make this, and that they probably put a lot of genuine work and effort into this. I don’t mean to nag, its just something to think about.

  19. That room needs more drums.

  20. I don’t have anything funny to say. I just think this is a really fun thing that these kids got to do, and I’m happy that they got to do it. And I agree with their message – don’t step on people’s feet… it’s rude!

  21. I really hate having feet on my feet. That thing when someone steps on the back of your shoe and knocks it off in public? It’s horrible! That said, I loved this song.
