You guys, it would be a shame to tarnish Videogum’s anniversary with something so callow and divisive as to play favorites while also singling out individuals for shame. This is a celebration! Also I am still really tired and think that maybe my head is going to fall off but I searched for “think that maybe my head is going to fall off” on WebMD but didn’t get anything conclusive and also as a person I’m as prone as anyone to laziness and the abdication of responsibility. But mostly it’s because this is a celebration, I’m sure. And so, for once in our blogs, how about you guys tell each other which of the comments you liked the best! Or don’t. It’s literally up to you. GOODNIGHT!

ALL THE COMMENTS ARE THE BEST! WE ARE ALL GETTING OUR EGOTS!
That would probably be the one thing Oprah would not be cool with giving out to everyone.
So does that mean I e-get two egots?
OMG! A Southern Monster Meet Up in New Orleans, you say?

It’s true! It’s happening! May 14th! Check out the details here:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=193425917369354
Or check this out on MOBFD:
http://www.mobfd.com/2011/04/announcing-new-orleans-monster-meet-up.html
Yes!! All my dreams are coming true!
I will even travel to the depths of Chalmette for this meetup! (Please don’t have it in Chalmette)
Also, I literally just marked this in my calendar, but since I use my calendar for work, I had a long pause while deciding on the most work-appropriate thing to call this. I settled on “meet-up.” Is that a normal thing that people write in their calendars?
OMG. I just had my honeymoon in New Orleans, and we’re talking about moving there. If we’d just stayed I could have attended this blessed event. WHY DON’T I ALREADY LIVE THERE?!
Meetup related for Monsters across the pond: I will be in Spain in July, and I’m planning to do different countries on the weekend. Let me know who you are and where you are. If you’re willing to come to Madrid, so much the better. I’m already planning to see Duncan.
Downvotes? Internet, you so crazy!
Don’t feel bad. One of those downvotes was an accident as I attempted to upvote as a former madrilena.
Good to know! I was concerned. I thought it might have come off as Paltrow-esque. But I applied for a scholarship! And I didn’t get to go as an undergrad because I was working my way through college and couldn’t afford it! Baby Friday: she’s just like you!
If you happen to “do” Amsterdam during that weekend, I know of at least two places that sell beer.
( *As opposed to Heineken. )
I hear there are a lot of Grand Rapids monsters. Grand Rapids Meet-Up sometime in the future???
I’m a Grand Rapids monster by heart, but currently camping out in Honduras, teaching. Grand Rapids meet-up in late June??? Or Honduras meet-up??
I’m a Michigan monster who might be able to make it to Grand Rapids. So maybe!
rock rock rock rock rock rock rock rock
(for the NOLA monsters, who will get this, and anyone in NYC who has seen the recent Freedia shows)
I am here right now working on a musical y’all, but flying back to NYC tomorrow. So sad, missed the NYC meetup and will miss the NOLA one too.
The entire Lawnmower Man freak out from yesterday probably made me laugh more than anything this week.
They gave the site to Tom Hanks for an hour, and he totally had us going!
GOTCHA AGAIN!
Especially Baby Fridays naked insecurity about downvotes. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing.

Yes, I upvoted all of them.
YAY! Sometimes my jokes come off like not-jokes, so I’m glad someone laughed! (Seriously, I am apparently the worst at sarcasm/kidding around.)
And I downvoted all of them. YES Babyfriday, it is I!
H-how…how could you? *sob* After all of our tweets, all of our comments.
*brave face*
I can’t pretend that doesn’t hurt, but…I’ll take you back batteredgnome.
I like ALL of the comments, and ALL of the commenters the best (yes, even you, Winwood)!
I’m sorry that my personal geographic circumstances prevented me from attending Monsters’ Ball 3D last night, but I’m glad that it was such a good time for those who were there.
And I’m very glad to be a part of the wonderful Videogum community. I’ve been around here for the past 2+ years as my schedule has allowed, and it’s a really special place on the internet.
Webkeep, a round of upvotes for my friends!!
Edmonton can only really be described as “geographic circumstances”, can’t it?
I echo all your sentiments. ‘Gum is in the heart.
Thanks for getting “Groove Is In The Heart” stuck in my head Pam
There’s another Edmonster, isn’t there? But I can’t remember who. We should have an awkward meetup. I’d suggest Ethiopian food, but it just burned to the ground
whoa, that was an unasked for emoticon animation. Not cool, internet. And after I just said such nice things about you, too!
Holy shit, Langano Skies burned down? I just ate there last week!
I can pretty well guarantee any meetup that involved me would be awkward. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t happen though. I thought there was at least one other Edmonster?
I know, I was just there last Friday! There was a big fire Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
Dance Party, pants party!

I wanted to find a gif of a 3 year old dancing since I thought that would be perfect, I could not find that so here is a youtube video of a 3 year old dancing to Salt N Pepa in their underwear that works too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jMH_IDqyvY
DANCE DANCE.
REVOLUTION.

“Lady Liberty kept flashing them big ass titties at me, so I fucked her.” –France
GAH! DANCE CONTEST WINNER!!! I couldn’t remember your name earlier! See post below and know I ♥ you
That guy down there on the lower left clearly lost the Pants Off Dance Off.
And here’s to Mr. Werttrew-son, The Monster Nation turns its upvote eyes to you. Who-oo-oo
God bless you please, Mr. Werttrew -son, Gabe is sick. Unofficial ball today. Hey-hey-hey.
Hey-hey-hey.
Is it technically plagiarist if we have the same timestamp?
I sang your comment to Bridge Over Troubled Water and it works, so yes.
Unofficial Monsters’ Ball:
http://werttrew.tumblr.com/post/4449500234/unofficial-monsters-ball-for-april-8-2011
Congratulations, Videogum. You earned it!
Does this mean my caption contest win doesn’t count?
No, it counts.
In times like these, it’s always comforting to know that we can count on werttrew to do the ranking. Because if everyone is special, then no one is.
Just kidding, I hate Ayn Rand. (Werttrew still great.)
My wife reads more than anyone I know. She read Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead and hated both. We’ve often spoke of our shared hatred for that woman’s cold heart (not to mention questionable “dialogue”) and the economic impact that has resulted from its influence.
A couple months ago, I saw she was reading Atlas Shrugged again. All the way through. When I asked why on earth she would subject herself to that again she replied, “I dunno, I needed something to read.” So I guess she doesn’t care about anything as long as she can PUT WORDS IN HER EYEZ.
“That One, what’s the point of this story?”
“I like stories.”
Amazing fact to share with your friends: Ayn Rand applied for and accepted public assistance when she was ill at the end of her life. I guess her books should have had a postscript: “PS–does not apply to me.”
Someone sent me this a while back and it made me smile.

Whut?!
Oyyyy, it has been a rough week, am I right? Time to go and get all

It’s crazy how many pictures there are of you floating around the internet. Interweb Celeb over here!
I had such a good routine prepared for making the ball this week.
Oh well. Always the Ballsmaid
That girl went on to have a serious meth problem. So Gabe probably just saved you a world of trouble.
At first I read this as “math problem” and thought, “hey, c’mon, not every former child star can be Danica McKellar.”
Good for her. Shame on her graphic designer.
“IT’S FOR MY JOB MOM” will always have a place in the Monster’s Ball of my heart.
While we’re awarding each other, have you guys noticing that FLW has been killing it? Now you are.
I’m worried about it, you guys.
There was so much great stuff this week that made me laugh, but “Cool, Kiki Dunst has force lightning in this” had me rolling today.
FLW, you are truly doing the Blog Gods’ work.
Related: did you know that Dr. Sunken Tits is an anagram of Kirsten Dunst? And now you know.
I’ll squeeze them shits, though.
Also, Mans’ reply to “pictures or it didn’t happen.”
“Uh oh, all of the world’s religions are in trouble!”
Priceless.
Gracias, Jawn. Much appreciated.
Let me just say, you guys are the best. Much love from me to you all!
I would like to reiterate that you guys are the best, the best, the best
HOT DAMN! I’d hit that!
Hello, nightmare, ever hear of a spoiler alert?! I totally did not see that coming.
While I know you mean Dave, I’ll still pretend this is a compliment for me. Thanks!
FRUIT GUSHERS FOR ALL!
Happy birthday, Videogum! You (and your residents) bring me joy daily, which is something that not a lot of things can boast.
The screencap of you and Duncan doing the face yoga makes me giggle every time I think of it, speaking of joy. I wish I could find that picture.
Found it! All the LOLs:

Doc getting in the mix! (Thanks to slothdrop for giffing this)

I mean boko! Oh god, don’t kill me please, boko.
You guys know you’ve changed my life, right?
Like, how you gave me the confidence to go out and make friends and let other people read my writing and value my own opinions and stuff?
Anyway, thanks for that.
I love you.
Yay for you! That is so awesome.
I have to second this. I’ve struggled with social anxiety and depression, and being a part of this community has given me so much more confidence. I’m not as afraid to tell people how I really feel or to have conflicts because I’ve argued with internet friends and it wasn’t the end of the world, they didn’t hate me forever (I hope). I even made some real life friends! #winning
I’m dead serious when I say that this is so much more than a website.
You guys, I want to be Baby Friday when I grow up.
My mom says I’m the best commenter.
Moms are the best.
Monsters in the Ball
Exchanging upvotes,
Wandering ’round the Ball
What were the chances
We’d be three years old
Before the springtime’s through?
Something made me laugh
Was it your comment
‘Bout Rebecca Black
Or were you saying
I miss Coppercab,
Wonder what he’s up to?
Monsters in the Ball
Such funny people
Laughing in the ball
I’ve never been but I am sure that is is swell
I could never tell
A joke that makes the masses cheer
‘Least I know my friends are near
I can share your joy
Don’t comment often
‘Cause I’m such a busy boy
Perhaps this summer
I could make all you guys smile
With puns so lame yet sweet
Monsters in the Ball
Here every Friday

What could be a better way to place
A cherry on the sundae of the week?
…dooby dooby do…
This comment is made entirely out of win.
Videogum Memories:
One of my favorite Monster Generated Images:

Who was this monster? Did they change their Avatar and now I can’t find them? Anyway &hearts
Of course THIS demented shut-in’s highest honor was also monster ball related:
I wish I could find the monster-generated image that made me become a commenter–it was the man in black and Jacob from Lost, but with Steve Winwood’s and Notsewfast’s faces superimposed. God, I laughed, and I had no idea what was even going on. Two months later I joined up and managed not to completely embarrass myself.
Ta-dah!
Now who made that? Notsewfast? Chris Trash? Lawblog? someone amazing obviously.
AH! It’s as amazing as I remembered. I owe you +90,000 upvotes.
And …there are too many great gifs out there… Once again, no monster to praise for this one… I think notsewfast again:
AND in searching through my folder called “Gumstuff” I am reminded of all the monsters who’ve come and gone. It makes me quite sad. Good times. Good people. Videogum4lyfe
DVDA
DANCE CONTEST WINNER is the Monster who made that (way up there). DANCE CONTEST WINNER. ♥ ♥ ♥
and this is why Mr. Hausfrau is THE BEST! My very brief heyday on vgum came and went and now I am very old and the kids have taken over but you still remember! It’s like being invited back for old-timer’s day. 3 hearts right back at ya!
This gif by Ian in the Paula Deen caption contest is by far my fav Monster made image!
Spoiler alert I didn’t make it, sorry guys I let you down
My personal favourite comment of all time was the Steve Winwood Explains It All GIF. Can’t remember whose handiwork that was, but had I been drinking a beverage, I would have shot it out my nose.
I second that! I wish that would come back.
Happy birthday Videogum! Only 15 more and I can bone you! Legally!
my favorite comment was anything that was an image. YAY ILLITERACY.
I had a really awesome time at the anniversary. My only wish is that I could have met more monsters! I say next year we have name tags. Y? Y.
I should have tried harder to search out some monsters but I think I had the flu so we’re all better off. There is something extra legit about being an irl Internet meetup lurker though.
Okay, so earlier in the week I attempted to make a Videogum birthday tribute video called Birdiequest in which Gabe would have travelled through the internet, met Topher Grace’s floating head, and transformed all of our avatars into shiba inus. It was going to be set to the Brodyquest music and it was going to be awesome.
Alas, my life is crazy right now and I was not able to complete this noble endeavour. Just know that I tried.
Some of my favorite moments came from the rise of commenter tophersuxbutts, from scores of downvotes to eventual embrace. It is just one example of the power of this community to neutralize a seemingly would-be troll by magically turning into a beloved site gimmick.
I loved tophersuxbutts and all his buttssuxxing.
Sometimes I feel self-conscious and sad because all of you monsters are so ridiculously funny. I’d love to contribute, but I’m a lot…less funny. But to be honest, I’m happy to lurk. You guys are the best.
Oh, same here! I spend about five minutes proof reading my small contributions, thinking about ways to phrase ideas differently for more laughs…and then I refresh the page every few minutes to see if anyone has upvoted or commented on my comments. AND THEN I get sad thinking about how happy I get when internet people think I’m funny.
I didn’t know commenting anonymously on a pop culture blog could be so complicated! Whatever, love it anyway!
(This comment took five minutes to write and edit…sad times at wherewolf high)
Glad I’m not the only one! That’s exactly what I go through when I comment.
same here, y’all
Same. It’s hard being a noob…
All of us were noobs at one point! That’s the great thing about Vgum–we welcome newbies, rather than shunning them. It’s life, jump into life!
Also, listen to this:
http://soundcloud.com/videogum/lawblog-we-monsters
All that matters is that we all love Videogum even if we aren’t funny. We are a family, and some of us are elective mutes. My boo is six thousand miles away and Videogum is the only reason we are still in love (not really but still). THANK YOU, VIDEOGUM!
Come on, y’all, everyone was fantastic this week (as always), but Polythene Pam pointing out the true title of Gwyneth’s cookbook was simply the best.
well, we could just keep upvoting it:

Party! WOO!!
Monsters, they have blocked VideoGum at my work. My commenting, such as it is, will be somewhat limited. Rest assured, I will continue to check the day’s events in the evening. You all have given me so many LOL’s and
I LOVE YOU ALL!!
I don’t comment, but I read all the comments always because…Christ you guys are funny. You make my work days so so so so much better. Hooooooray!
That’s what I wanted to say to you all, your hilarious take on the world has alleviated an otherwise difficult time in my life. AND I learned how to make animated GIFs and post them this week. Yay! Here’s a present!

Thefoodreviewer is happy, and that makes me happy.
http://youtu.be/fv6JlILTjfg
I’d like to say thank you to Gabe, guest bloggers and all the monsters for making me laugh every day!
i think gabe might be suffering from ‘network connectivity error’
I am so tardy to this party, I worked all day. I wish I could have meant any of you. I left kinda early and even if I didn’t I’m super self-conscience so…
Oh man and I was hoping to find out if I had won lowest rated comment. Oh poo
I live in the Pacific Standard Time Zone and work bunches of jobs and hours, so I have to TiVo Videogum. Just wanted to wish Gabe a Happy 3rd Birthday. Almost all of the comments for foodreviewers food review of Fruit Gushers got my upvotes this week. I was laughing so hard, I was crying; because of y’all, my neighbors think I have problems.
I love VideoGum so much (uguys, notice how I stylized the V and G, amiright?) that I want to take it behind the school and start a nice Roth IRA at the bank downtown so it can retire someday. But don’t ever retire, VG! You better not retire!
I love you guys, I regularly laugh hysterically while scrolling down these threads. It amazes me how creative and hilarious you guys are maybe one day I’ll stop all the lurking. Just ignore my lame avatar that was the result of a weekend Deadwood bender.
