Well, you guys, it is almost here, the most wonderful event in the American Dream: the Academy Awards! Obviously, I’m excited about the same thing we’re all excited about: THE DRESSESSSSSSS! Who are you BARFING?! Honestly, there are some pretty good movies in the competition this year (Inception, Toy Story 3, The Fighter) but I’m still disappointed that Step Up 3D was not nominated for any of the big awards, and the fact that David Fincher wasn’t nominated for Best Director is kind of a sham because that dude directed the F out of his movie. That movie should have been called DIRECPTION. Also, no Costume Design nomination for Winter’s Bone?! That movie dressed great. (And finally, not enough nominations for Blue Valentine. Whoever wins the Best Divorce category this year will be robbing that movie of the award it deserves. These guys know what I’m talking about.)
Of course, the only thing more American than the Academy Awards is apple pie institutionalized racism Daniel Lawrence Whitney gambling! So let’s put our money where our guesses are! After the jump, you will find the (mostly) complete list of nominees (sorry, Best Animated Short). Simply choose who you think will win in each category and post your ballot as a comment. Then, on Sunday night, let’s all get together right here and watch these wonderful and most importantly MEANINGFUL awards like A FAMILY. Oh, and whoever gets the most correct wins a $50 Amazon Gift Card. And if more than one person has the same number of correct guesses, a winner will be chosen at random. Neat!

Let’s just say his acceptance speech won’t be…….PG-13!
It will be R-f
Instead of using the orchestra to play him off, they’ll just have a squirrel run across the stage.

If there was any justice in the world Toy Story 3 would win Best Picture…at the very least it should win SOMETHING for making Tim Allen relevant in 2010.
I think Toy Story 3 should win best picture DESPITE its heinous crime of making Tim Allen relevant again in 2010.

I really want “Incendies” to win for best Foreing Picture! Cause it’s Canadian, mostly but also because my best friend made me watch it because I was feeling down and it was her motivation for leaving the house and then the movie was so upsetting but great and therefore it is worthy.
Sentences. I’m great at them.
I was gojng to write a list, then wertrew predicted everything I was going to predict.
I don’t agree with all these choices, but it’s what I think will get me a $50 gift card.

Um hey Gabe, I think you meant Christopher Nolan up there where you mentioned a director who wasn’t nominated but should have been. Because David Fincher is nominated. Just lookin out!
I am super surprised that Inception is getting so many votes for Best Original Screenplay! Have you guys seen that movie? The dialogue is TERRIBLE.
I mean, I liked the movie, but it is not well-written, at all. Dialogue! Bad Dialogue!
I think it’s a matter of how that screenplay was able to convey the rules of the world clearly (and interestingly) to the audience.
I think it is also a symptom of people just loving the idea of a challenging and enjoyable “original screenplay” as opposed to “screenplay that is a reboot of a 1980s children’s toy that in no way shape or form should become a film because it is a toy not a story yes I am looking at YOU Battleship ugh god.”

I don’t think that Melissa Leo is going to win because of the CONTROVERSY over these stupidly self-indulgent consideration press photos. I didn’t even know those ever existed.
…or am I just INCEPTING you?
Also, How To Train Your Dragon is totally going to win best animated feature.

DITTO.
Nicolas Cage is going to win every category in an Academy first!
Tron for all of it. Fuck that haters.
I DON’T KNOW IF YOU ARE JOKING OR NOT, BUT I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. Only, for Inception. For everything it is nominated for, and even as a surprise YOU DESERVE IT AWARD THOUGH WE ARE DUMB AND DIDN’T NOMINATE YOU for Best Director.
But Tron: Legacy was amazing and one of my favourite movies last year and it would please me so much to win Best Sound Editing.
Though in Best Sound Editing, my 3 favourite movies of last year (T:L, Inception, and Toy Story 3) DO make up 60% of the noms, so I am 60% sure I will be pleased with the winner.

I’m going to a Fantasy Oscar Draft party on Sunday where I could win $150+ CASH with better odds, so you can just park your gift card at the kiddie table because THIS IS THE ADULTS’ GAME!
If it’s a fantasy Oscar Draft Party that technically mean it’s not real, and therefore I refuse to believe you.
Does everyone dress up as elves and gnomes and other fantasy characters? That is what I always picture. I was so disappointed in the reality of Fantasy Football….

(Aside: I’d hate to see TKS win for original screenplay. On second viewing I noticed there’s far too much reliance on jokes that are basically like Geoffrey Rush saying something about members of royalty being supposed to show some nice quality like intelligence, and then Colin Firth saying, “You haven’t spent much time around members of royalty, have you?” It’s easy writing and a lot of the humor in the movie is of that type. I like the movie, but not for its screenplay. Imjustsayin.)

Wow, it was really hard to have an opinion on some of those, especially those in which I couldn’t default to Harry Potter. Sound Editing? Do I care? Any category in which Unstoppable can be nominated seems to me suspect. Well, anyways, vote for me, you guys! KG for all of the Oscars! =D

(The above does not represent the opinion of the commenter on the relative merit of the future recipients, he just really needs $50 to buy himself a new bluetooth mouse and maybe a DVD)
What the hell is a bluetooth mouse? I thought bluetooth was a Borg implant that went in your ear?
