In his new book, Stanley Fish writes that one of his favorite sentences is this: “And I shall go on talking in a low voice while the sea sounds in the distance and overhead the great black flood of wind polishes the bright stars.”– Ford Madox Ford.

My four favorite sentences are a bit different: “My grandpa is over at my house and he is very stinky. So say hi to my grandpa Ray. He is technically in the nuthouse. I’m not kidding.”—Lauretta

  1. Yeah, time works differently for werttrew. I don’t even have a job, and I can’t watch these videos fast enough to keep up.

  2. “And I don’t blink. And I just keep going.

And I don’t blink. And I keep on going.”

These four sentences have been etched into my soul. They wouldn’t normally be my four favourite sentences, but I don’t have a choice.

  3. I want the video camera that makes everything sound like a butt dial and everything look like an acid trip.

  4. My favourite sentence is “Congratulations getting Editor’s Choice, Polythene Pam: you earned it!”

  5. I’m absolutely convinced that when the world ends, it will be Lauretta’s doing.

  6. It seems the skull hammer is good for giving your grandfather a heart attack.

  7. “HEY! STOP HAMMERING GRANDPA!!!” – Disembodied yelling voice

  8. I think Lauretta has got Gary Coleman’s disease because her Youtube page says she’s 19. Also, was that was fucking Buck Henry sitting back on the couch? Weird video is weird.

  9. “Nut House, Not Cool” – the entire psychological treatment service community.

  10. Clearly, oversized novelty hammers are good for hitting nuthouse grandpas, but let’s never forget their original intention: as props in “Shrinking Judge” films.

  11. I have to confess, I am absolutely horrified by this video. Christ Almighty, we live in a world I can’t understand anymore!

    • I debated which angle to play up: how weirdly funny it is or how weirdly creepy it is. It’s an uncanny, unsettling little slice of Americana.

      • I haven’ seen “Winter’s Bone”, but this is what I am going to imagine from now on when people talk about it.

  12. You guys, I am so stoked for the Youtube commenter’s meetup this weekend in LA.

  13. Did Hal Hartley direct this or something?

  14. I’ve clearly been watching too much Marble Hornets because the quality of this video combined with the surreality definitely had me expecting Eldritch Horrors, and some such.

  15. She taught her grandpa to “do tricks”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3neXYr4BYI

  16. Grandpa is in the nuthouse indeed.
