This isn’t very funny! But it’s video news, what do you want from me? The Criterion Collection is coming to Hulu Plus! For those of you who don’t know what The Criterion Collection is (I had to look it up) it’s basically just a collection of artistically important movies like Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Now you can watch them all for free (for $7.99 a month) on Hulu Plus!

Finally I can see Armageddon!

I stand firm in my refusal to get hulu plus until it can stream to my apple tv. There. I’ve said what everyone is thinking.
#firstworldproblems
I see no problem.
Or you could stop supporting Apple and save your soul in the process.
it streams to my roku which is awesome!!!!1!
Does anyone actually have Hulu Plus? Is it worth it? I want to know!
From what I understand:
Hulu + < Netflix Instant
I have hulu+. It’s good if, like me, you get random cravings for specific back-catalog episodes of 30 Rock and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The Criterion Collection is a great addition, though.
I guess I was just wondering if Hulu+ offers anything unique that Netflix Instant does not, other than immediacy. If the only differences between regular and plus are just some movies and a few more episodes of current, on-air TV shows, then it doesn’t seem worth it. Are there more international offerings or anything like that?
if you want to comment on the thursday night tv open thread, immediacy is the only thing that matters.
Hulu Plus has full series of some random TV series tucked away in there that I didn’t find available on Netflix, like Peep Show, and Rick Steves’ Europe! I have both though because normal cable refuses to work on my dumb TV and I wanted all the options available to me.
“Rick Steves’ Europe Through the Back Door” is some damn fine television.
Perfect. I’ve always wanted to pay for the privilege of seeing The Bad Sleep Well on a 19 inch screen.
But does it have Amelia? I read a rather glowing review of it recently and am very much looking forward to viewing it.
this is wonderful! wonderful news!
I can’t wait to finally watch the Criterion CB4!!!!

I, uh, I actually like that film.
I preferred the first three.
Part of me was being sarcastic but an even bigger part of me was being sincere.
From the article: “Customers still write to Jon Mulvaney all the time, but now instead of pens and typewriters, they send him e-mail or post to our Facebook page or Twitter.”
Please go on. I would like to hear more about this FASCINATING new technology? Electronic mail? The future is now.

whoops! Gigantic picture for a gigantic flop. Apologies from Justin and Kelly and ApplePieHubbub.
7.99 or 700.99, whatever gets this film in my living room faster
Probably my favorite one:
Does this mean they’re going to take all the Criterion movies off Instant Netflix? I was probably eventually going to watch those!
Yep, that’s the sad fact. (Criterion confirmed it on their facebook page.)
You can’t put a price on pretension, but if you could I guess it would be $7.99/month.
You are just mad that the collection doesn’t include “Turner and Hooch.” Yet.
Actually, I much prefer the original French version, Le Tourneur Et La Gnôle
The alcoholic and porn version are both entitled “Turner’s Hooch.”
Something something http://fakecriterions.tumblr.com something. No punchline.
One honest question I have is whether they will include any of the Criterion special features or audio tracks. Isn’t that kinda one of the main draws of Criterion releases?
This is why I still tend to get my Netflix dvds in the mail instead of streaming them… you can’t watch any special features. But maybe hulu+ is different?
HuLu is intending on posting the commentaries etc. Good news I guess!
I don’t really know, as a Canadian all hulu is is a black box.
Hulu is not available in my country
It’s amazing news. I’m shocked that this brad person had to look Criterion up. Really? Seriously? wtf?
