Tyler Perry is a lot of things: billionaire, terrible director, housedress connoisseur, but one thing he is not is a very good actor. Oh, sure, he was GREAT as the principal of Space School in Star Trek or whatever that was. But that was just typecasting. Usually he is bad. And at the very least, he is no Idris Elba. No duh. Idris Elba? Are you kidding me? STRINGER BELL AND ALSO LUTHER? Go to bed (on your private island), Tyler Perry. And so now what the hell is all this? (From Vulture)
In August, it was reported that Idris Elba had signed on to play Alex Cross in a new film based on James Patterson’s best-selling murder mysteries, a part previously played by Morgan Freeman in movies like Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. That didn’t work out. Now Tyler Perry will star as Cross in the reboot of the franchise, which is being conceived as a trilogy and directed by Rob Cohen (XXX, The Fast and the Furious).
I’m sorry? I’m sorry that your movie was probably going to be good but now it is definitely going to be terrible? Oh well. There ain’t no nostalgia to this shit here, etc.

Am I the only one who thought what was missing from The Wire was a healthy dose of sass and cross-dressing?
Tyler Perry as Omar’s Grandma, that would’ve just great.
*Been
“Let me state that The Wire owes no apologies — at least not for its depiction of those portions of Baltimore where we set our story, for its address of economic and political priorities and urban poverty, for its discussion of the drug war and the damage done from that misguided prohibition, or for its attention to the cover-your-ass institutional dynamic that leads, say, big-city police commissioners to perceive a fictional narrative, rather than actual, complex urban problems as a cause for righteous concern. That being said, seriously, sorry about Tyler Perry. That was my bad.” -David Simon

On the other hand, this movie probably won’t be good, so might as well have a not good actor, and not have Idris Elba’s imdb page look even more wtf-worthy (Obsessed? Prom Night?)
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Absolutely. He is amazing, and should be cast in everything that conflicts with Idris Elba’s schedule.
Yeah, I think hes playing Peter Parker in the Spiderman reboot. He has so much range unlike Tyler Perry who can only do the one character but with different costumes. “I’m crazy!” “I’m crazy but an old man!” “Now I’m crazy but dressed like your fat grandma! You like that don’t you? Gonna do lots of that.”
“I ain’t afraid of the po-po! Well, get on with it, motherfu…” *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!* *BLAM!*
I recently rewatched that ep and I never noticed how Bunny also says “get on with it, motherfu…” in the Comstat scene when he’s being fired. He’s even cut off by Rawls. It seems so obvious but the connection must have escaped me.
I watched all of Luther yesterday and now I am empty inside because there’s no more Luther to watch. Don’t even think about playing other roles, Idris Elba, and put more Luther in my eyes plz.
This news is like a forty-degree day: I ain’t got shit to say about it.
I’d be doing cartwheels for a forty degree day at this point.
Yeah, I definitely would’ve expected a better actor to be attached to a James Patterson project. #dadface #sweaters
I mean this was just a smart move on Idris Elba’s part, right? Seeing as how “Kiss the Girls” worked out so well for Morgan Freeman.
I am throwing up in my mouth SO MUCH today.
With the director of XXX & The Fast and the Furious, this movie was alway going to be bad, Elba or not.
And in even more recent news, Idris Elba’s role of the Asgardian Sentry Heimdall in Marvel’s upcoming ‘THOR’ film has been removed, re-written, recast and reshot.
Originally an all-hearing, all-seeing Norse god, the role has now been re-written as a tough-talking, lesson-spewing ball of irrational violence named Madea. Rumor has it that Madea will be instrumental in teaching Thor a lesson at some point. The part has been given to Tyler Perry.
“Tyler Perry’s THOR” is in theaters nation-wide May 6th, 2011.

Tyler Perry doesn’t need costars, he can do bad all by himself.
Every time I try to read a James Patterson book, my brain jumps out of my head and kicks me in the balls.
