There is simply nothing better than a comedian earnestly discussing comedy JK JK JK! That’s the joke! This video is interesting enough, I guess. It certainly takes itself about as seriously as it possibly could. Although, while Ricky Gervais is often very funny, I think we can all agree that Chuckles McCamera needs to TAKE IT EASY. Is Howard Schatz worried that Ricky Gervais is going to walk out of the room if he doesn’t laugh overly hard and somewhat disingenuously at all of his jokes? Because he won’t. He won’t walk out of the room. THERE IS A CAMERA IN THERE! Two cameras, actually! Kind of rough timing on the whole “comedy coming from a good place or a bad place” though, am I right? Eek! Which place are you coming from, Ricky? Hard to tell sometimes! (Via VanityFair.)

I’m legally required to tell you in this post that
“Karl Pilkington has got a head like a fucking orange”
Does anyone else occasionally wish that Karl Pilkington would just punch Gervais?
That’s a weird looking lorry.
It’s happened: Ricky Gervais has become David Brent.
It’s inevitable. Steve Carell became Michael Scott years ago.
That guy could use some laughing lessons from Natalie Portman, am I right?
Are you havin a laugh?
Howard Schatz himself
Lebron has two voices up there. Business Lebron says “Why would you say that?” Wise says “I want to see what happens.” And Business Lebron goes, “Yeah, but people might really get offended.” “Yeah, but they might really like it.” Wise usually wins.
I’m pretty sure you got Wise and Business’s roles reversed.
It’s the fact that both Business Lebron and Wise defy the regular social norms and roles that will make The Lebrons so compelling.
I’m about 100% sure Ricky Gervais made the same face in every photo in which he wasn’t laughing. Go ahead and check my math, if you must.
I don’t understand what’s happening. WHAT’S HAPPENING?
He’s making himself seem more important than he is. Basically, he is doing the same things as those Hollywood a-holes that he ridicules….right?
When I woke up this morning, I did not expect that Ricky Gervais would tell me about kindheartedness. I did not expect that, and I did not want it.
Why is the interviewtographer telling Ricky all of his sexual fantasies, also?
“Your twelve-year-old friend is biting the heads off of live frogs, and then you move closer to him, and you stroke his hair–and you’re twelve, too, so it isn’t weird–and his lips part…” –This guy
I would be laughing like Howard. There, I admit it.
Guys, I have a confession… I really love Ricky Gervais. I think David Brent is one of the great television characters. The Office and Extras are both amazing. He’s probably the best talk show guest around. I really love him.
BUT… I just don’t like him as a standup. I just don’t think he’s good as a standup comedian. I watched clips from the Golden Globes and felt like I was watching a British man deliver crappy celeb jokes from Chelsea Lately.
Sorry.
Agreed. “Out of Engand 2″ was almost intolerable for me. He’s much funnier if he’s just presenting an award and making fun of Steve Carell than if he is hosting an award show and/or doing stand-up about obese people.
As a big Gervais fan, I am forced to agree.
*lowers “Ricky Gervais is God” sign after holding it above head for several years ; stretches arms*
Nope. Even his standup is great. The Noah’s ark bit is brilliant.
Bahhhhh wtf is with that photo popping chuckle-uckl-optopus? I’m so uncomfortable now.
Wait, is this an interview or a Voight Kampff test?

I haven’t commented in ages and I was going to log in specifically to make this same joke. I don’t know who you are but I like you.
After the second “BWAahahhhhhhhhh_____hhhhhhhhhaaaahahahaHAHAHA!” I had to stop watching.
Okay, you’re an effeminate, twenty-something new-wave no-hit-wonder pop-star…

Um, can the world please chill about Ricky Gervais?
His Golden Globes yukk-yukks aside, I have never seen this guy make a joke that wasn’t some veiled gag about homosexuals, fat people or the handicapped. In The Office he played a character who believed fucked up things and people laughed at the idea that a character could believe that. But after the first 10 minutes of the first episode, that element’s kind of over and it’s ultimately just him delivering fag jokes.
Have you ever seen his stand up? He’s a biggot with good PR.
