After the Internet’s e-love iAffair with Die Antwoord, South Africa’s premiere novelty hip hop band, it was only a matter of time before some other intrepid foreigners raided a hobo thrift shop and a nunchuck store and filmed a video at their grandma’s house. Those intrepid foreigners are New Kids, from Holland. The best part about them is that we don’t have to spend any time wondering whether they are real or fake (which is always kind of a weird thing to spend very much time wondering about, right? Because it never changes the fact that something definitely IS) because we already have our answer: FAKE! I don’t actually understand any words in that article other than “Comedy Central,” but luckily there is an embedded video of what is clearly some kind of (hilarious, I’m sure) sketch comedy show. So, basically, the New Kids are actually the Lonely Island of Holland? SAME DIFFERENCE. Put Die Antwoord in one hand and Lonely Island in the other and see which fills up faster. Besides, people have built actual musical careers out of less. For example, The Lonely Island.

Anyway, here is the new jam, “Turbo”:

Put it on your Zune! There’s tons of mildly sarcastic crap you half like as a joke and half like for real on your Zune already. (Via BuzzFeed.)

  1. Well, they certainly have Holland’s notorious good looks. I’ve always said, if you’re from Holland and pretty, you’re already famous!

  2. Can we not listen to this and say we did? Or can we not and say we didn’t?

  3. I was in Amsterdam for a couple of months last year, and these guys were all over the TV. I didn’t understand ANY OF IT. But they had a bunch of topless women on their show, so I watched for much longer than I would have other wise. (True AND good story) (Also. No misogyn-o.)

  4. That song was really, really good and really, really funny. Good AND funny.

  5. I don’t want to go through this video Step By Step, but fake or not, these guys have certainly don’t have The Right Stuff to be take seriously. They might seem to be Hangin’ Tough, but clearly after watching this video, This One For The Children.

  6. Hey, anybody else remember when Die Antwoord stood up the Austin Monsters and made us just look foolish at a rave? Because I SURE DO!

  7. As Videogum’s resident Dutch guy, I will let you guys struggle with this until I try to explain what the hell this is about exactly. Hint: New Kids Turbo was the 1# Dutch Film in 2010.

  8. Well, they certainly had the good sense to heavily employ high speed cameras, because I think everyone as humans likes to see stuff move really slow that usually moves really fast.

I definitely got a Trailer Park Boys/Sacha Baron Cohen vibe from this thing, along with Rammstein, disturbing as that is.

  9. Nah, I’ll rep for Die Antwoord. They present significant trends of South African culture (tradition vs. modernity, whether that is a false bifurcation, racial politics) in the context of the traditional MC roles of bragging about skill as a rapper, sexual prowess, consumption of luxury goods…

This is fun, but it doesn’t reach for the same goals.

  10. Just in case you thought these guys shouldn’t fuck off, joke or no joke, exhibit A:

  11. Actually I think the Dutch got there before Die Antwoord with MC Miker G and J Sven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7aJr1fIGMk

  12. Anybody hear about Palin on Hannity saying democrats used crosshairs too? I’m not pointing fingers at who used crosshairs and who didn’t, but what she just did there was admit to using crosshairs. I thought they were surveyor marks!

  13. Not that it’s relevant, but the first season of New Kids aired in 2007, wheras Die Antwoord formed in 2008.

  14. There’s only room for one group. of New Kids in my heart:

  15. I left my country and came to Britain to study.
At first I was kind of happy for the cultural difference, thinking that people here will not listen to the shit we listen back in Greece.

I found out that the Die Antwood made it in top UK Charts.

    Fuck you humanity!

    Also…duck sauce.

  16. Oh Napoleon Dynamite, see what thou hast wrought…?

  17. Anyone else ever wish we all spoke the same language? I’m not saying english is the right one, but I think we should all speak something that’s more or less the same. For times like this.. and for.. I don’t know other important stuff but mostly for the lulz.

  18. I’m cool w/ this

  19. Lost in translation: a lot.
