After the Internet’s e-love iAffair with Die Antwoord, South Africa’s premiere novelty hip hop band, it was only a matter of time before some other intrepid foreigners raided a hobo thrift shop and a nunchuck store and filmed a video at their grandma’s house. Those intrepid foreigners are New Kids, from Holland. The best part about them is that we don’t have to spend any time wondering whether they are real or fake (which is always kind of a weird thing to spend very much time wondering about, right? Because it never changes the fact that something definitely IS) because we already have our answer: FAKE! I don’t actually understand any words in that article other than “Comedy Central,” but luckily there is an embedded video of what is clearly some kind of (hilarious, I’m sure) sketch comedy show. So, basically, the New Kids are actually the Lonely Island of Holland? SAME DIFFERENCE. Put Die Antwoord in one hand and Lonely Island in the other and see which fills up faster. Besides, people have built actual musical careers out of less. For example, The Lonely Island.
Anyway, here is the new jam, “Turbo”:
Put it on your Zune! There’s tons of mildly sarcastic crap you half like as a joke and half like for real on your Zune already. (Via BuzzFeed.)

Well, they certainly have Holland’s notorious good looks. I’ve always said, if you’re from Holland and pretty, you’re already famous!
Comedy Central? So this is the New Kids In The Hall?
Can we not listen to this and say we did? Or can we not and say we didn’t?
I was in Amsterdam for a couple of months last year, and these guys were all over the TV. I didn’t understand ANY OF IT. But they had a bunch of topless women on their show, so I watched for much longer than I would have other wise. (True AND good story) (Also. No misogyn-o.)
The more I hear about Amsterdam, the more I think their philosophy is “Whatever they’re doing in America, we’ll do the opposite.”
It’s actually a really cool and pretty place! The whole town looks a like a gingerbread village. When I get as old as Gabe, I will consider retiring there for sure.
That song was really, really good and really, really funny. Good AND funny.
I don’t want to go through this video Step By Step, but fake or not, these guys have certainly don’t have The Right Stuff to be take seriously. They might seem to be Hangin’ Tough, but clearly after watching this video, This One For The Children.
Hey, anybody else remember when Die Antwoord stood up the Austin Monsters and made us just look foolish at a rave? Because I SURE DO!
As Videogum’s resident Dutch guy, I will let you guys struggle with this until I try to explain what the hell this is about exactly. Hint: New Kids Turbo was the 1# Dutch Film in 2010.
And as an American, I demand an explanation immediately without first putting in any effort to find out on my own.
I upvote the way Americans upvote, unilaterally.
Fine. These guys play what is basically the Dutch redneck. Mullets, sweats, cheap beer in cans, homophobic, they’re even from the South. Actually, the sorry excuse for a town it is set in is about 20 miles from my hometown, so…
It is an immensely popular show on the Dutch Comedy Central, mostly because of the exagerated stereotypes and of course the swearing, which we can do on TV. Cee-lo was so happy on Dutch TV, because he could finally sing “Fuck You” the way he meant it. Anyway, they made the show into a movie, which was the most visited Dutch movie in 2010 and this song is from the soundtrack. It is a tribute to the 90′s happy hardcore that is commonly associated with the stereotype.
The More You Dutch*
*i was going to remake the whole “the more you know” thing for a visual joke but thats a lot of work for such a bad pun**
**totally necessary explanation
Thank you for being both succinct and thorough. I don’t think most of us could’ve gotten all that short of moving to The Netherlands for a year.

Well, I did try to explain it once to my flatmate who was from America (whaddup, Matt) and he thought that shit was hilarious. Mostly because you do see people like this walking around the city centre in the weekends.
Fun fact: you can say the word cunt on Dutch TV. And they do. Profusely.
For all you Americans, Flatmate = Roommate. The more you know.
@facetaco, It’s surreal when you live in a former British colony and hear these Britishisms daily out of very non-European mouths. I learned all about flats and lorries in Bangladesh. #colonialismgum
another dutchie here, first time commenter, yesh?
and these kids also starred in some video clips by the opposites a while ago:

(sorry second one is shitty quality; you’ll get the point..)
Well, they certainly had the good sense to heavily employ high speed cameras, because I think everyone as humans likes to see stuff move really slow that usually moves really fast.
I definitely got a Trailer Park Boys/Sacha Baron Cohen vibe from this thing, along with Rammstein, disturbing as that is.
Nah, I’ll rep for Die Antwoord. They present significant trends of South African culture (tradition vs. modernity, whether that is a false bifurcation, racial politics) in the context of the traditional MC roles of bragging about skill as a rapper, sexual prowess, consumption of luxury goods…
This is fun, but it doesn’t reach for the same goals.
Just in case you thought these guys shouldn’t fuck off, joke or no joke, exhibit A:

Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of that.
It’s been done.
Die Antwoord shall always and forever remain my samurai.
Rad. That’s the clearest GIF I’ve seen of this clip yet. Much better than the same ones on gifsoup.
PS: Btw- I totally agree with you. Die Antwoord = my samurai… and butterfly and all that good shit.
Actually I think the Dutch got there before Die Antwoord with MC Miker G and J Sven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7aJr1fIGMk
Anybody hear about Palin on Hannity saying democrats used crosshairs too? I’m not pointing fingers at who used crosshairs and who didn’t, but what she just did there was admit to using crosshairs. I thought they were surveyor marks!
Not that it’s relevant, but the first season of New Kids aired in 2007, wheras Die Antwoord formed in 2008.
There’s only room for one group. of New Kids in my heart:

Why does that one in the front and center look so uncomfortable?
Lol. I totally thought of NKOTB when I saw this Dutch band’s name as well. Why or why did I ever give up my NKOTB T-shirt I scored at a thrift-store back in college?? I used to get so many “compliments” on it.
Uh…Macgruber???
I left my country and came to Britain to study.
At first I was kind of happy for the cultural difference, thinking that people here will not listen to the shit we listen back in Greece.
I found out that the Die Antwood made it in top UK Charts.
Fuck you humanity!
Also…duck sauce.

Pretty slick beat RoboCop.
Also your emo fringe is showing.
Oh Napoleon Dynamite, see what thou hast wrought…?
Anyone else ever wish we all spoke the same language? I’m not saying english is the right one, but I think we should all speak something that’s more or less the same. For times like this.. and for.. I don’t know other important stuff but mostly for the lulz.
I’m cool w/ this
Lost in translation: a lot.
