Acclaimed British actor Pete Postlethwaite has died. Oh no! This is not the funnest way to start the new year, but SPOILER ALERT: 2011 isn’t JUST going to be fun. Besides, we live in a messy and dangerous world where every 12 seconds a famous white actor dies. Remember that. From the AP:
Oscar-nominated British actor Pete Postlethwaite, described by director Steven Spielberg as “the best actor in the world,” has died at age 64 after a long battle with cancer.
A gritty and powerful actor, Postlethwaite was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 1993 film “In The Name Of The Father.” He had recently been seen in the critically acclaimed film “Inception” and had worked with Spielberg on “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “Amistad.”
Postlethwaite initially planned to become a priest but was drawn to acting.
R.I.P. Pete Postlethwaite. You will be missed. You’re in heaven now, described by director Steven Spielberg as “the best angel in heaven.”

I could think of no greater honor for this man than to have “Postlethwaite” be recognized by spell check, because honestly, it took me three minutes to check if I spelled it correctly.
I agree, and I also apologize for my plagiarist comment.
“I’m disappointed… that you tried.”
RIP Pete Postlethwaite. I am ashamed that I have been unable to spell your last name until right now.
He’s Up in Heaven, riding his Bike on Angel Hollywood’s Famous Green Carpet.

Uh-oh. Now you’ve gotten him all relied up.
I’m going to go ahead and declare that he has that smile on his face because somebody just told him how to turn his bike into a motorcycle using a baseball card.
3 cards though, Pete? That’s just crazy!

A reply to Werttrew’s comment waylaid by my own incompetence or a non-sequitur designed to appeal to Videogum’s vast Cockney readership? You decide!
No mention of Usual Suspects? He was awesome as Kobayashi.
Then who is Keyser Söze?!!!
I think we need to restore Stephen Baldwin to being Orca Fat, picking beans in Guatemala.
Whenever I think of Keyser Soze, I think of Keyser Salsa. What can I say, I like burritos…
I’ll always remember him for his work on the prequel to Ghost Dad:
The Cos looks a little…. Different? to say the least.
First Steve Winwood Joke of 2011…. check.
Leave me be, Ghost Dad! Why must you haunt me so?!
Goodbye, sweet Pete. I hardly knew ye. No, but really. I hardy knew him. I cant say I’ve heard his name before he died. :-/
“That’s a good job, Petey.”
True story Pete Postlethwaite gave me the thumbs up for no reason.
I had an inexplicable urge to watch Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet this weekend…I guess now I know why.
Everyone knows Michael Landon is the best angel in heaven, who knows why Spielberg loves Pete best, forever.
I am genuinely bummed out over this. No joke, just sad.
Why would I want to be the first one of my friends to like this?
When I moved to London last year, this wonderful, now-an-angel man was my second celebrity spot (after Jarvis Cocker…anyone from the USA? No?).
He was sat by the Thames eating a sandwich and reading a newspaper with his glorious face and moustache. I was too starstruck to turn back and hug him and now I know I will never get the chance… BIG REGRETS GUYS…..
