I’m going to be honest, you guys. I wasn’t really into the Thursday night TV last night. Shhhhhhh. It all felt a little lackluster, or maybe it has something to do with the knowledge that next week’s episodes are the Christmas Specials, which is when they pull out all the stops, or also just that general tone of this time of year where there’s so much “extra” stuff going on that if you can’t eat something or use it as an excuse to get out of work, then who cares, you know? That being said, I laughed out loud many times at 30 Rock, I plan on sending lots of friends an Andy Bernard-themed “Megan Fox?” texts, and Taco making obituaries for all of his friends on The League, all of whom die in 2014, is obviously the best. Plus: so many special pals on Community! Tig Notaro! Paul F. Tompkins! Not to mention Alison Brie’s pretty great “Annie/Caroline” plotline. It’s not like last night’s shows were bad. COME ON I’M NOT SAYING THAT. They just felt soft. But again: shhhhhh. It’s the season of giving, not complaining. It’s the season of SHUSHING.
Shush it up.

“I am going to call it Microsoft”
For some reason capitalized acronyms always look threatening to me, as if you were shouting that’s what she said right at my head.
I KNOW WHAT you mean, HEYHERMANO.
i thought community was excellent. there’s something about that show that just hits all the right notes with me.
I thought it was great, too. It wasn’t really a LOL a minute, but it was still fun and adorable. I wanted to just hug them all the whole time.
that show can really switch from goofy fun to poignant and touching so fast it’s kind of amazing.
Yes, totally agree. This episode made me want to give everyone in the show one of these:
Aww yeah I loved how he passed on having a drink at midnight so he could drive errbody home safe. Reminded me of my own crappy 21st birthday only I didn’t have any great friends
I RESPECT your opinion SIR, AND I GLADLY upvote IT!
I didn’t get to see it because my local NBC affiliate station, thought a special report on bullying was more important. I was like this all night:
“What about Brown and Folderson?”
So good.
also, did anyone else notice that 30 sort of ripped off paul f. tompkins’ ice t. bit with the poorly thought out names for business projects?
You beat me to it. But yes, I did notice!
Well then Tompkins took it from the Simpsons, who took it from god knows who. I mean, I adore Tompkins and have followed him from his Mr. Show days, but it’s hardly fair to credit that trope to him.
“please tell me Harold is a human”
At least Community provided us with another upvote gif! Quick! Concert_addict! Get us a gif of Jeff and Troy giving each other thumbs up!
Alternately:
Yay! Thanks lumbermouth!
I could seriously watch this exchange for HOURS
I thought it was funny that Paul F. Tompkins was on Community, and then 30 Rock kind of stole his “Ice T creates businesses with bad names” joke. Also, I like Seven and Sevens (Shhhh).
I could have sworn I’d be the only one who felt that 30 Rock ripped that off a little bit. Oh well! Misery loves company and whatnot.

Dwight’s interaction with Other-Pam warranted several rewatches.
It won the night.
I can’t wait to do to Pam what I did to Pam.
Was so happy to see Paul F. Tompkins on Community. I love him so.
But my mother said he reminded her of Bill Murray. Thoughts?
i don’t see it, but i could listen to paul f. tompkins talk for days.
Amen.
I search for him in the iTunes podcast directory and just blindly download any episode of any podcast he is a guest on.
Aw, you guys. It’s nice to find like-minded folks.
OMG. I totally do that, too.
I do that three.
I just found out PFT does a voice of the smallest bar thug in Tangled and now I’m like, “Better go pick a LATE showing of Tangled and see it.”
I’m kinda in love with the Pod F. Tompkast. Please download all of it and enjoy.
Here’s what I have to say to your mother:
(sorry, I’m going to stop posting gifs now).
Please never stop posting Community gifs.
Who could pass up some gay sex with Paul F. Tompkins?
(The F stands for Fu@king.)
Abed missed out. PFT was lookin’ fine last night.
30 Rock wins with a total homeless burn:
“Get a room! Whatever that is.”
I almost spit out the wine I was drinking at that part, which would have been a disaster!
Modern Family = best comedy on the network teevee’s
I disagree with you on that front. I’m kind of split between Community and Raising Hope at this point, but Modern Family is a good show, too. You definitely didn’t deserve to be downvoted.
my mom keeps telling me to watch raising hope. i try to catch the episodes with kate micucci at least because MARRY ME KATE!
I dunno, I feel like Raising Hope tries too hard.
Raising Hope is fucking awful…
Um. You guys. You need to take a nap and then try it again.
Raising Hope is so good! I love that show! Its close to the top of my list – right near community & 30 Rock. And that baby might be the cutest baby actor ever.

You should watch Joel McHale’s episode of the Kevin Pollak Chat Show.
Oh wow – I did not notice this episode get posted – thank you for alerting me! I find KP completely obnoxious, but he has some great guests (HAMM, Huebel & Scheer, Thompkins, Adam Scott….so much goodness). I shall now enjoy the McHale deliciousness.
I STILL don’t see HOW ANYONE on that show is ANYTHING OTHER than a caricature. IT’S FUNNY, but those PEOPLE ARE ABOUT as three dimensional AS YOUR AVATAR.
That is accurate to a degree. Which is why the show will run its course after 4 seasons, hang on for 3 more excruciating “please stop ruining this for me” seasons, and ultimately get cancelled. I’m looking at you The Office, (former greatest comedy on the network teevee’s recipient).
But that doesn’t make Modern Family any less great than it is right now.
I was actually pretty pleased with TV last night. Danny DeVito’s Elmer Fudd was cracking me up so hard. And I was probably unreasonably happy that Charlie won $15,000 and then spent it all. He deserves it!
One of my best friends growing up was a Jehovah’s Witness and for his birthday one year my friend made him a card that said, “Happy I’m-Glad-You-Were-Born Day!”
I would usually just go, “Oh hey, Happy Bir—uhhhhh I mean—hey, it’s nice outside today, huh?” …and he would laugh.
#truestorygum
I’m so stealing Happy I’m Glad You Were Born Day even though I know no Jehovah’s Witnesses, only Scientologists
Also a true story, but probably not as funny: my Italian grandmother is a Jehovah’s witness, and before my older brother turned four, she told him that he Jehovah would be watching on his birthday. Who knows how in depth she got, but she definitely made him aware that celebrating birthdays was wrong. At the restaurant with my mom’s family (#child of divorce), they brought out the cake and sang and my brother burst into tears and screamed nonsensically about Johavah.
This grandmother also used to cook a big dinner on Christmas Eve and call it “The 24″ to avoid any suspicion.
When it was revealed that Troy’s birthday was Dec. 4, I pointed at the TV, then back to me, grinning. Troy and I are birthday twins.
December 4th is also my Bestie’s birthday! So Happy early birthday too you too!!!
It is my sister’s birthday, and she actually is turning 18, which in the land of Canada is that rite of passage where we are obligated to take her out, argue what her first drink should be, as I stealthily remove unflattering polaroids of me from the wall.
Neat. Happy birthday ya’ll!
it’s also my mom’s birthday!
Can we all just hold hands across America and agree that “The Ballroom” was a brilliant thing to call a bar with an ironically classy and also disgusting name? Thanks.
Adopting a dog so it can watch us make love, and then returning it, complaining it bit our imaginary child, is more than enough for me
Did Mr. Jenna Forte say “Imaginary Child” or “Inner Child”? Because both are funny for completely different reasons.
Last night’s Always Sunny was definitely the best of the season, maybe just because I’m a Phillies/baseball geek. Dennis and Charlie getting more drunk than Utley and Howard had ever seen anyone (really though? not even Pat Burrell) then using Charlie’s money to drink champagne on a private jet is vintage Sunny.
I’m a huge fan of The League but last night’s episode fell short, I don’t know why, maybe because when they said Pete was born in 1982 I realized all these dudes are the same age as me except way more successful and I dwelled on that to much #oldgum
IT’S ALWAYS Sunny was fucking spectacular LAST NIGHT WHICH made it even MORE JARRING when it switched to THE SHITTINESS that is the League. That show STARTED OFF SO good this season, yet the past FEW EPISODE HAVE BEEN sliding downhill rapidly as RANDOM CHARACTER ELEMENTS are added just FOR THE FUCKING SAKE of a one off joke and THEN QUICKLY DISCARDED. UGH, frustrating.
Re: Pat Burrell.
Good point. No one outdrinks the machine.
The only problem I have with The League, and they do this every so often and last night’s ep was one such occasion, is when they have the characters make RIDICULOUS decisions that don’t make sense to me.
Last night Ruxin pretended he was a widower to talk to fantasy football radio dudes. His wife overhears him and freaks out. He doesn’t go, “No. I’m pretending to be a widower for these radio guys that you can clearly hear me talking to.” Instead, he has to commits to a LIFE LONG lie that we all know is going to lead to some comedy then blow up in his face in about 12 minutes.
Situations like these are what get me hung up on The League, but all their one-liners sweep me away in chuckles.
I loved the parallel between Mac eating grass like Charlie and Charlie holding his asparagus and eating it like it was grass. There were definitely bigger laugh out loud moments, but its the little subtle moments that make It’s Always Sunny stand out for me.
sorta loved this “THIS IS FOR THE RATS!” callback.
For some reason, Charlie talking about all the rats he’s killed with such remorse in his voice was one of my favorite Sunny moments ever.
RIP Peter Peter Nickle Eater
people can no longer say there is a war on christmas. those ads for next week’s NBC shows have “Christmas” as every other word.

it’s like the writers went “people seem to like charlie, let’s make everyone as stupid as charlie!” no, just me?
EVERYONE’S KIND of been an IDIOT/TERRIBLE human being FROM THE beginning. That was PARTIALLY THE point (and the SOURCE OF ALL THE “Seinfield on crack” COMPARISONS).
but they’ve definitely gotten worse over the years. i guess i’m just not FEELING it anymore.
Charlie Kelley: King of the Rats was one of the greatest episodes of the entire series’ run, right up there with Who Pooped the Bed, The Night Man Cometh, The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell, and The D.E.N.N.I.S. System. I dare you to argue otherwise, Sir.
my ironic mustache I’m right there with you. I think after the third season it has gotten decreasingly worse. This season I haven’t really found anything that great. It just feels like they’re trying to hard to be outrageous/offend people. Lesigh, have you seen any of the first three seasons? The episodes you claim as the greatest don’t even compare to the episodes of the first three seasons (except The Night Man Cometh).
What?
WHAT??!!
I have heard a lot of people say this and I just dont get it…that Halloween episode, lethal weapon 5, this season of sunny has been amazing
I am not above upvoting for an avatar. Your avatar, sir and/or madam, deserves an upvote.
the halloween episode was the only one this season that i’ve really enjoyed. lethal weapon 5 seemed like it was trying WAY too hard for viral video territory.
MEDIC!
I think it they came to the brink of being a husk o’ formerness (liberty bell episode anyone?) but I think this season has been pulling it back hard (sweet dee as wacky-inflatable-arm-man anyone?)
Hey fun news for people (LIKE ME) who haven’t seen Breaking Bad.

AMC is going to re-run the first three seasons at odd hours. It’s like they KNEW I just got a TiVo.
I JUST bought the first season and rented the full second season from the library! I love this show!!

I haven’t watched my stories yet, but I’m excited about the Paul F. Tompkinness of Community. In the summer I started following him on Twitter because, um, I’m not really sure, I think because John Hodgman always retweets him. I’d never heard of him. Then he came to do a show in Toronto in October, so I bought tickets purely on the basis that he was a person whose name I’d heard of. It was an amazing show. Paul F. Tompkins: highly recommended by Xave. (And I hear episode 2 of the Pod F. Tompkast is in the works!)
more than in the works, friend. episode five dropped on wednesday!
Ah yes, the Paul F Tompkins 300 1-year anniversary show. Sadly couldn’t make it.
!
Also, there are 5 (!) episodes of the Pod F. Tompkast, each one better than the last.
Wait, seriously? I need to figure out how his website works a little better. Thanks guys!

I’m thinking about adopting a dog now thanks to 30 rock.
Drunk Jeff and Britta were my favorite parts of the night. The make out scene in the car was great. I need to rewatch that episode just to listen to their background conversations. “THE HURT LOCKER WOULD NEVER WORK AS A RADIO PLAY!”
no joke, Troy’s 21st birthday played out exactly like mine. That was the curse of being the last one of my friends to turn 21 – I ended up driving all of my friends home and going to bed at 11:30 pm.
I’m so glad I have hands, you guys, cause it would be real hard to comment and upvote with my feet!
