FilmDrunk sets out to prove their long-held thesis that a movie featuring a “nut shot” in the trailer will inadvertently be terrible. The study is being sponsored by the Duh Aficionado Institute.

  1. And yet, when there is a nut shot in a home video, it is inevitably one of “America’s Funniest”. What up with that?

    • You’re going to believe Tom Bergeron, the most jaded host on television? He puts those in there as commentary on American humor. The audience members laugh because they’re expected to laugh, little realizing they’re really laughing at the death of individualism at the hand of the culture-zombie.

  2. But…the ball! His groin! Ah ha! It works on so many levels!

  3. Counterpoint?

  4. At least they’re having a ball!

    (No. Just, no.)

  5. When a TV cartoon features it, though, it tends to be awesome:

    • I maintain that anything Bobby Hill does, ever, is comedy gold.

    • That’s my purse, I don’t know you

    • That show is the best show

      • Wait, really everyone? I have never been able to find anything about KOTH funny. It’s like an animated King of Queens meets the sorry from Earl or whatever that deeply unfunny show’s called. This is not meant to be offensive, but as a group that I tend to find quite sharp I can’t tell if you are kidding or I’m missing something…

        • I suggest you give it a try with an open mind. It’s Mike Judge, so it’s got a bit of a backbone, plus just some of the gags are downright hilarious. It plays like a live-action sitcom, but sometimes it gets cartoony in the best way. For instance, in one episode it’s revealed that Dusty Hill from ZZ Top is cousins with Hank Hill and at one point, he straps Bobby to his bass and spins him around.

The first couple seasons are a bit rocky, but it really hits its stride around season 3 or 4. Even up until the end there are seriously awesome episodes.

        • Maybe you need family/friends from Texas. Sometimes King of the Hill borders on spooky documentary.

          • That might be right: I grew up in Texas (pssst: a “Lu Ann Platter” is a half portion at Luby’s), so a big chunk of it might be my knowing (biblical or otherwise) people like the characters.

  6. Also being studied at the DAI, movie trailers with the phrase “Electric cars are gay.”

  7. So, I guess we are all just going to ignore the nutshot in Schindler’s List then?

  8. How the hell am I supposed to get people to go see my Jimmy Carter biopic, then?

  9. Can I propose a “Taser” corollary to this theorem?

  10. Busted! … Caddyshack succeeds where all other trailer featuring a nutshot films have failed.
