FOX has renewed The Simpsons for a 23rd season, during which they will broadcast their 500th episode. That is so many episodes! That is literally too many episodes. Go to bed, The Simpsons.

I don’t really understand why this is bad news. At worst, it’s neutral news. I mean, it would be nice for the people who make The Simpsons for them to get a vacation, but it’s not like we haven’t just been ignoring it for the last 10 seasons anyway. It’s not like I have to go out of my way to avoid it or that it keeps popping up offensively in all other media like Glenn Beck.
I guess what I’m saying is that I probably won’t watch it, but it doesn’t bother me that it’ll be there.
I think it’s actually going to very strange when the Simpsons gets canceled, and for all the “DO IT NOW!” that is said by the generation that grew up on the Simpsons and hates to see it decline into such mediocrity (myself included), having it actually done will be much more strange than simply ignoring it on Sunday night.
We all have complicated relationships with the Simpsons now, but I can say that my soul is not prepared for a world in which I only get 5 chances a night to see the show in syndication, without that new episode on Sunday nights.
I know. It’s comforting to have it there as a touch-stone, though I almost never actually watch it on Sundays anymore. But I still look forward to the Treehouse of Horror episodes and will sometimes idly catch an episode on Hulu. It’s still not a bad show. I find the fact that Two And A Half Men is in its 8th season much more offensive.
I, for one, cannot wait* until I am old and infirmed and have nothing but time to sit in my wheelchair and watch Simpsons reruns for the first time before I die.
*I can wait. I have SO MUCH to do.
And, of course, The Simpsons remains popular in syndication.
Seth MacFarlane hung up the phone, biting his lip to contain his anger. He shot a sideways look at the calendar and sighed, his shoulders sagging as if weighed down by a million cares and troubles. “2024,” he said to himself, letting the number echo around the cluttered office. He got up and walked to the window, his resolve steeling. He would best that bastard Groening yet.
There’s only one man who can put a stop to this.
As long as they rerun the first 10 seasons i don’t really care….
We’re going to need a bigger 2 liter of mountain dew?
Seth McFarlane has been so patient waiting for that time slot to open up so he can debut his new animated sitcom, “Marriage Man.”
I don’t know how I feel about this. Need to do a thinking jig.
Never stop in the middle of a hoedown!
“D’OH!”
“Yes, you’re in deep ‘d’oh’ now.”
Yeah, that’s what they all say. They all say “d’oh.”
I think its become more fashionable to hate on the simpsons than it actually deserves.
I haven’t watched the Simpsons in over ten years, but recently caught a couple new episodes for a couple weeks in a row. The one where like, Lisa isn’t as smart as she would like or something, and another where something happens. I don’t really remember. But they were new episodes because the guide said so and I enjoyed watching them. Someone else mentioned this is neutral news at best/worst, and I’m inclined to agree.
good. I love the simpsons.
great comment, compelling and rich.
Dough!
Don’t have a cash cow, man!
Shouldn’t this be in Duh Aficionado? In other news: the earth continued to rotate on its axis today.
Obviously 500 episodes for The Simpsons is too much, but it’s not like it’s unwatchable. It has definitely gotten more hit or miss as the years have gone by, and the HD switch makes it seem like there’s no love put forth in the animation anymore, but I find myself laughing hard at least once per episode. And when it comes down to it, I don’t care how many episodes I’ve seen of them, I adore anything that comes out of Moe’s and Mr. Burns’ mouth.
I was saying boo-urns…
I haven’t watched a new episode of The Simpsons in years until this last Treehouse of Horror (21!), and it was pretty painful. Parodying Twilight makes sense and it was kinda okay, but Jumanji and Dead Calm? I think they’ve run out of things to make fun of.
Also, “Simpsons Gifs” brings up some disturbing results on Google Image Search.
Yeah, but “Pumpkin segregation forever” from two Halloweens ago was probably one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard on the Simpsons.
I know this wasn’t your point, but I don’t really understand why so many people say the Simpsons is so bad and has been for ten years or whatever, because in my mind, it’s still the Simpsons, and still smarter and better than most crap out there. I agree that this year’s Halloween episode was meh, though. I think I am just not swayed by the “current Simpsons ruins old Simpsons because nostalgia” argument that many people support.
No real response here, just like this .gif.
there are people who have graduated college and then stood in unemployment lines for over 2 years that have never been alive without the simpsons being on TV.
True story: The Simpson’s premiered exactly one week before I was born. I have literally never known a world without them.
hopefully the bring back roy.

It’s all about these guys right here.
