charlie and spike are two kittens with myotonia congenita, otherwise known as ‘fainting goat’ syndrome. at the slightest sound, the kittens respond by collapsing and falling into a rigid paralysis which lasts about a minute before they return to normal. This condition has hardly ever before been diagnosed in a cat, is rarely found in dogs and is more common in goats. The kittens are able to walk, but they cannot run or jump. aside from this they are normal. sad to report that the black and white kitten (spike) died on 27th october from respiratory failure. thanks for all the kind messages. I had to stop after the slo-mo fainting cat because it was just too much. I couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry.
I ended up doing both, I started off laughing but then felt sad and started crying and by the end I was doing both.

The saddest part was when the kitten touched the little bell. What kind of monster would put a bell on the floor for these kitties?? Who didn’t see that coming?
I didn’t even notice that when I first watched it. “Let’s booby-trap the floor with noise makers!” And yep- I re-watched it to check it out, and I laughed, and then I was sad. Again. This video has me all sorts of conflicted.

I did not do my homework on the clip which you have now seen and sent it in as tip. I did not read the youtube description. I thought these kittens were cute, and after researching moyotonia on wikipedia, I assumed that these kittens would have long and rambuncious semi-normal lives the way that goats do.
I was wrong and now I’m just like that guy with the cornrows throwing his elbows and knee-elbows into solid bricks. I promise to this community that I will no longer send tips in. With the election year coming to a close we already have all of the depression we need.

Even after I knew one of the cats died and it’s a sad disease, it still made me LOL so much to see them fainting. Can’t we just enjoy the visual comedy and try to forget that the world is terrible and everything dies?
because these kittens are “cute” they are lavished with love so that despite the misfortune of their condition they still get a vastly superior quality existence than say those of us who are not cute and spend our days unloved and hated upon and reviled which in turn darkens our spirits and makes us into nastier and uglier beings then we would be otherwise

My kitty often abruptly collapses on the floor also, but it’s because he wants to get his belly rubbed. I’m going to forget all the sad stuff about these kitties and pretend they were doing it for the belly rubz.
How many times do they have to show them collapsing?! It’s like some overly long and unfunny SNL skit (i.e. most of them). Not to get too #seriousgum, but I never found the fainting goats funny either. I sure as hell would be further freaked out if my body failed me every time I was startled.
I’m at a loss to understand the point of this video at all seen as it can only function as to make people laugh or cry, depending on how awful you are. They should just take it down, especially after having to disable the comments. They obviously enjoy the youtube hits more too much to mind people laughing at their little dead kitty with THE WHITE TUMMY AND SOCKS oh my god it’s so depressing…..

My cat Zooey had a hemetoma in his ear and so all week we’ve been all over the little guy. Cleaning his ear of the blood, getting him to take his meds, and making him wear the cone of shame. I just love his stupid little face and hate how uncomfortable he is. I just want to take these little kittens and cuddle them ever so quietly.
