[In this feature, we will periodically check in to see what is up with Topher Grace.]
An armed gunman has taken the Discovery Channel offices hostage! What a terrifying situation. Literally the stuff of nightmares. Apparently he has a history of boycotting their offices, and wants them to make changes to their programming? Yikes. A letter probably would have been as if not more effective, sir! There is no way or reason/desire to make light of the situation. I even had a friend who worked at Discovery a few years ago. He doesn’t work there now, and it wouldn’t be any less horrific if I had no personal connection to it. I’m just saying that this is a real thing that happens to human beings! That you might know and care about! It’s horrible and terrifying and a fresh reminder that the world is filled with crazy people and the unconscionably abundant access to modern weaponry that allows them to harness their insanity into a terrible weapon. Yuck. Bad job, world. Hopefully this thing ends soon and with no actual violence. [UPDATE: The suspect has been shot, the hostages are safe! Good job, everyone.]
Speaking of television and people who have a vested interest in it, what’s up with Topher Grace? (Good segue. NOT offensive.)
Last week, we had photos of Topher Grace walking within five feet of Prada to Nada star, Camilla Belle, and now, care of oceanup.com, we have a blurry cellphone photograph of a tiny 1/4 page of a magazine confirming that they are a romantic couple!

Congratulations to the happy couple! Not that it is any of our business whether or not they are happy. It’s really more of a private matter, you VULTURES.
The Onion AV Club has an interview with Kevin McDonald from The Kids in the Hall, and he shares an origins story about his recurring character on That ’70s Show featuring Topher Grace! The person this column is about!
That ’70s Show (2000-2001)—“Pastor Dave”
Kevin McDonald: That happened because The Kids In The Hall did their comeback tour in 2000. Around the block where I was walking my dog, Topher Grace was driving by, and he stopped the car and came out and told me he was a big fan of The Kids In The Hall. We talked for a bit, and he was super nice—as I keep saying—and I told him to come out and see the tour. So he and the producer, Mark Brazill, the guy who created That ’70s Show, came to see it. A month later they created this character Pastor Dave and Topher said, “Hey, why don’t you get Kevin to do it?” Which is the showbiz system working. That’s why you’re supposed to do shows in Los Angeles, apparently. [Laughs.] But that’s the one time it ever worked. If it works in one person’s life, it’s like getting hit by lightning. It’ll never work again. So I did it and they kept writing him back and I think I did around 10 episodes? I might be exaggerating.
AVC: You did six.
Meanwhile, as always, Yahoo! Answers tackles the TOUGH QUESTIONS:

Two days left to answer, guys.
And, of course, That ’70s Show remains popular in syndication.
There you go. That is what is up with Topher Grace. Send your Topher tips to tophergracenews@videogum.com. See you next time!

If I had the time I would write a Hey What Is Up with Jessica Alba, because she is all over your precious Huffington Post today and on the cover of USA Today. I even saw her on the cover of some other magazine at the check out line in the grocery store this weekend. Thought about buying it but felt creepy so I chose not to. Anyway, I hate Topher Grace and do not approve of this blog series, friend.
Quit blamming about it, Steve, and just BLAM IT!
I think you mean that Blammy Show Remains Blamular in Blamication
kind of a cop out to just try to rely on lame memes all the time rather than coming up with original material
Hi Steve, welcome to Videogum!
I think that same thing every time I see a “lorry” joke
somebody should photoshop Keanu on a fucking lorry and just cut and paste my comments on top of it and be all like “peace out”
Is that what a lorry is??
Fixed it for you.

The blog has started reading me!

bing can be pretty rad sometimes
I’m gonna stop you right there and make you read what you said.
It will never have the market share that Blam does. BlamEarth… BMail…Blamaps.
Hey Notsewfast this is kinda unrelated but I was at Urban Outfitters and um they put you on a shirt and I was not sure if you were aware

that’s you right
Hey Notsewfast
that’s you right
Hey! Red Rocks! Who’d you see, Notsewfast?
The Doodlebops, obviously. I know it looks like I’m crying there, but I’m actually screaming out the lyrics to ‘Gibble Gobble Nabber Gabber’.
Thanks a lot, mom.
Topher Grace: American Hero
Oh yeah? If you’re really Topher Grace, then tell me this: in which roles did you have hair like this?

The movie where I was being an American hero, does that narrow it down?
He was planning to pitch “Win a Date with Kevin McDonald”, but the studio wouldn’t bite.
You did six.
Ouch, a most palpable hit.
I know, I was like, way harsh, Tai. Why does AV Club want to hate on one of the Kids in the Hall?

I love that Kevin McDonald needs Topher Grace to vouch for him in order to land minor roles on middling shows. #thereisnogod
Back when I had crushes on all of them, Dave Foley was my first choice and Kevin McDonald was my “safe school” of crushes.
Which do you like more: the comedy skits on Kids in the Hall, or the hella rad theme music by Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet? Enough talk! CHOOSE!
Skits.
Every single time I need to find a pen, I always end up asking in a McCulloch-like voice (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFEUy8NzazE)
Also, fun fact: the apartment building in downtown Toronto (aka where I am typing right now) was built on the old CBC Studio 7 grounds, where they used to shoot (you guessed it) “Kids in the Hall”!!!
True story. Look it up.
your apartment is haunted by comedy ghosts not unlike the tv show kingdom
*the apartment building in downtown Toronto in which I currently reside
Looks like our boy Topher is making a name for himself.

Actually, this might be old. I saw him on some really pretentious magazine cover the other day and I just figured it was this one.
No but seriously, that dude that is taking hostages at Discovery Channel has been on some demented crusade against the channel for years. As the link below shows he has been spouting off on message boards about how Discovery is basically ruining the Earth single handedly and other rational conservationists try to point out his faulty logic and dude is impervious to reason. One of the commenters even pointed out the uncanny resembelence of his photo to that of the Virginia Tech shooter. Wild, weird stuff here folks.

And also, I heart Topher (no doy).
He sorta reminds me of Steve Winwood.
I don’t mean to imply that SW would ever do something like that–just realized how that could sound. Just the whole antagonistic attitude.
If you look at this post real fast and look away real, real fast, it could give the impression that Topher Grace was the person that stopped the The Discovery Channel hijacker. In a truly better world this would be true and result in Topher Grace receiving his own Dog! The Bounty Hunter-esque show where he hunts down disgruntled television fanatics and shoots them and has blog posts written about his heroics. The pilot episode would find Topher stumbling upon an underground bunker of Jericho fans.
Stopped. Yes.
