We could all use a little charm in this dark world of pain and suffering. So, let’s have some charm! After the jump, please enjoy a short animated film from director Dean Fleischer-Camp about Marcel, a tiny shell who wears shoes. The role of Marcel is played by Jenny Slate of Saturday Night Live. I don’t want to give too much away, but Marcel’s one regret in life is never owning a dog. And wait until you hear how he ties his skis to his car! SPOILER ALERT: very charmingly, and very cutely as well.
This does not change the fact that the oil spill in the gulf may never get cleaned up, or that the War in Iraq is an endless hell on Earth, or that we live in an age of impossible bigotry borne of cowardice and fear, but, conversely, those things don’t change HOW CUTE AND GREAT THIS MOVIE IS.

So this is what will happen when Lorne Michaels finally retires and Spike Jonze takes over? I’m in.
This is my favorite thing I’ve ever seen.
One time I watched a video and it made my fucking day.
I just shared this on Google Reader! I loved it so much.
My one regret in life is that I will never be as great as this video.
“We tried to be decent men, in an indecent time!… and it worked out actually, mission accomplished I’d say.”
-All Involved
That was pretty adorable.
A-DORABLE.
Well, that was good and all, but now how are we gonna make the funny comments? By that measure, total failure, #justsayin
The film Ratatoullie was right – it is so much easier and fun to criticize than it is to love.
Since I can’t watch this, and that makes me very sad, can someone discuss Weeds with me instead? Season premiere last night! Thoughts? Personally, I miss Doug!
All I know about it that they were listening to Radio Lab on it. My friend felt the need to text me about that.
That super-good, super-popular episode about parasites. Ha ha, Nancy!
This video makes me miss my dogs. Even if Marcel’s dog is a pieces of carpet fuzz. Because he loves him and that’s what matters.
I feel happy now.
“Guess what I use as a pin?” “What?” “I- a pin, but it takes the whole family”
HOLY FUCK SO FUCKING CUTE.
Favorite part!
I thought he said pen, not pin. Maybe this is just an example of the Canadian/American divide.
“i would like to nominate this for best short film ever made about a shell, previously won by precious based on the novel push by sapphire”
- Every member of the academy
Last night a Frenchman told me Americans overuse the word cute and I absolutely understood where he was coming from. But ceci est cute!
i’ll help you lift that crayon, Marcel. then we can draw pictures all day and go swimming in a bowl of water. it would be a day when dreams come true.
I don’t want to brag or anything, but I’ve put shoes on a snail before… Unfortunately the snail didn’t live through the experience.
guess what i use to make my entire life brighter?
THIS VIDEO.
I had to watch this four times to decide what my favorite part is. It’s: “Guess what my skiis are? Toenails from a man.”
*skis, obvs.
I’m still split between “Guess what I use for a beanbag chair? A raisin.” and “One time I looked at a diamond and it gave me a sunburn.”
THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER MADE.
Yes, it’s a very difficult decision. I also love “Some people say that my head is too big for my body, and then I say, ‘Compared to WHAT?’”
Oh man me too. I think that’s probably the one I want to paint on my ceiling so I can wake up laughing every day.
I was having a crappy day, freaking out about my diamond shoes being too tight, basically, and this video was just a big ole’ scoop of joy in a bowl of hilarious and I will carry it in my pocket forever.
I am not going to do anything today that will even come close to the awesomeness that is this video
Wonderful. I thought Marcel was a girl, though. Is it a girl?… it’s a not about hot or not, just looking for consensus. Girl shell/ boy shell.
Want to know my biggest regret in life? That I will never be able to tie Marcel to a string and drag him along with me.
And by “string”, I meant “strand of hair”, obviously. This is why I’ll never have a Marcel to call my own.
This finally gives me a reason to buy a TV Hat.
“Guess how I drive a car?”
“How?”
“I paint an S on my shell and people say, Look at that S-car-go.”

My 5-month old niece laughed and flapped her arms uncontrollably to this video. We both did. Because it’s the best. Jenny Slate should do all the voices.
