Let’s get one thing straight: Eli Porter is a hip hop legend, and it is laughable, LAUGHABLE, that it has taken this long for someone to put together a documentary about him. THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW HIS STORY! Few MCs have their own internet meme, complete with Urban Dictionary definition and Facebook fan page. Does 50 Tyson have that? He does not. But there’s no point dwelling on the past. What’s done is done. Or more to the point: what wasn’t done is done now. For today we finally have a trailer for People’s Champion: The Eli Porter Story. oh man. i never knew how i felt about wesley willis, or daniel johnston. it’s one of those clearly uncomfortable “is this art? why am i attracted to this? am i in on the joke? is it a joke? am i a bad person for thinking there is a joke in this? why are so many other people who like this ironically claim to like this unironically?” etc, etc, etc. too complicated!
After seeing Wesley Willis play live in college, I have serious doubts about anyone enjoying his music on an earnest and supportive level. Maybe it was just where I was, but it was a horribly uncomfortable experience full of dunderheads (like myself) chuckling at a grown man singing songs about mcdonald’s and sucking a panda dick, while he stared back at us like a caged animal. And in between songs he kept muttering “so many eyes…” into the microphone. Not cool at all, and after seeing the reaction from the judges in the video, I’m nervous about this too.
And by the way, isn’t college supposed to be when you get an idea of social equality and get passionate about different causes? And if so, why was I such a turd instead? I swear, I was cooler in high school if you can believe that.

I seriously could not be any more excited for a movie. I can’t wait. This and The House That Drips Blood on Alex are in a neck and neck race to melt my brain.
By the way, this song is also the intro to Lakai’s Fully Flared skate video (directed by Spike Jonze). It’s probably one of the coolest things ever.
