aww that was a great read, I just want to hug him or give him a high five or both, but I can’t so this will have to do

That was a nice antidote to reading the comments on CNN’s report about the 14 year old shot by border patrol.

I gotta say, his paragraph about what he sees when he looks at his wife made me cry. Kind of a lot. For personal reasons.
I just think they should round up all the racists and send them all back to Arizona. Give them their own state, you know? They’d be happier and so would we.
Nah, we’d still have to live knowing they’re in our country. I say we plug up the hole in the ocean with ‘em. Their hatred of black things would stop the oil in its tracks.

Ugh. I know Ebert’s article is trying to show despairing about a situation is not the answer to it, but still. I can’t help but despair sometimes.

Plus the black and white photos of the hands of many colors were beautiful.
As a sidenote: my sister-in-law is Japanese. She is TERRIFIED to speak in public because her accent is very strong and she is afraid she will not be understood, or worse ridiculed. I look at my nieces and nephews and wonder what they hear from the nearly all-white community they live in near me. All we, as a family, can do is to continue to celebrate her culture that has defined her entire life. She CHOSE my brother for a husband. I can only imagine the kind of bravery it took to move half a world away to live in a foriegn land where people may or may not understand you…. or worse, not want to.

On the other note, Sachi actually knows our language quite well. It’s her accent that holds her back and it really shouldn’t.
