On last night’s episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Jon was joined by the rest of the correspondents to help introduce and welcome the latest addition to their ranks: Olivia Munn. Hi, Olivia Munn! I’ve posted Olivia’s first field report after the jump, and you can judge for yourself whether she has got what it takes. In any case, I am sure this news is the new foreman at the Nerd Boner Factory. Right? Aren’t nerds Olivia Munn’s core audience? And if that is the case, could one of you nerds riddle me this: who is Olivia Munn? I know she was the host of G4′s Attack of the Show, whatever that is. But now she is starring in movies and is a correspondent on the Daily Show? So she is basically the hot nerd girl equivalent of Joel McHale, is that correct? And she shares Betty White’s publicist, yes?

SIDENOTE: I don’t want to tell the Daily Show what to do, but they might want to get a little closer to Olivia Munn’s face next time. I’m just saying that I really think her face would have a lot to bring to the table.

On the one hand, lets give her at least some chance to be funny on the Daily Show. On the other hand, Attack of the Show is an abomination and Morgan Webb would be better at this and at everything.
I agree, most Daily Show Correspondents take a while to find their groove. I remember Wyatt Cenac’s stuttering delivery, now he’s one of my favorites. Since we’re all in agreement let’s also agree that Kevin Pereira is a wang.

I can only assume they were panned so far back (because she IS totally gorgeous and all of that) so that they could fit everyone into the shot. So next time I’m sure they’ll focus a bit more on her pretty face.
Also, I say we give her at least one solo go-round before we judge. I’m a cautious optimist.

Can someone explain to me why people hate Olivia Munn so much? I had an acquaintance on twitter freak out over her being hired and unleash a torrent of hate I haven’t seen since The War (as in of NBC Late Night hosts).
I guess I should put a joke in here somewhere. Whatever.
Because Olivia Munn : Sarah Lane as Jay Leno : Conan O’Brien?
You might not find Olivia Munn funny but comparing her to Jay Leno is just mean. You should reserve the comparison to Jay Leno to only those that deserve it. The more you use it the less power it will have. Eventually people will start throwing around the name Jay Leno just like political activists throw around the name Hitler. We must protect the shame that comes from being compared to Jay Leno.
Also I miss Sarah Lane on TV as well.
I don’t hate Munn, I’m apathetic to her, but I hate what she represents: G4′s pandering to their target demo of teenaged boners. Maybe I meant more of a NBC exec to G4 exec comparison than anything else.
I never said you hated her, I just thought your comparison of her to Jay Leno meant you thought she wasn’t funny and funny is nothing but an opinion. I find her funny you may not. I don’t know but from your Jay Leno comparison I thought you might find her not funny because(I may be wrong about this so correct me if I am) none of the Videogum monsters find Jay Leno funny. So by comparing her to the over consumed by useless(sorry “classic”) cars individual that destroyed a much funnier man for our generation(even Gabe’s old ass generation) chance of taking over the Tonight show, you have almost devalued the insult that is being compared to Jay Leno. I am also sorry you were downvoted for you explanation. I upvoted you back to even and I hope no one else downvotes you because you tried to explain the pain much of us felt with the transition from Tech TV to G4. I got over it and love G4. By the way Sarah Lane was on Attack of the Show’s 1000th episode.
Sorry for the long post but for some reason whenever I am drunk I post “should be downsized” comments on videogum. It may seem like an alcoholic move(since I am posting at 10:15ET) but I live in Vegas and we are a 24 hour drinking community. I hate visiting friends in Cali because I am used to leaving the house between 11 and midnight but in Cali if you do that you end up showing up at nearly last call, and don’t get me started on New Mexico. Midnight no alcohol? Really?

Be prepared to lose money but we are way funnier than Atlantic City and Indian Casinos.

I don’t know…I’ve listened to her on various radio programs and she seems a delight. I assume the haters are insecure for the ladies/mad they can’t have her for the fellas?
It’s mostly that she’s not super talented or funny, but very popular. I think the Jay Leno assessment was a bit spot on.
i never had an opinion of her or her work until i saw an interview with her, and she seemed like a genuinely awful person. now anytime i see her doing something i cant stop thinking about how mean she is.

I get why Attack of the Show has her on; she is pretty (TWSWS) and she is nerdy. But she is not funny. The Daily Show makes a big deal of cable news networks hiring women based on looks as opposed to journalistic integrity. So unless this is some Stephen Colbert/Andy Kauffman type joke, I think it’s utterly inappropriate and i will not stand for it. I am taking my monocle and top hat and going home.

I am a fan of Olivia Munn but I have yet to see her do well in something scripted outside of Attack of the Show or other G4 programs(yet to see Iron Man 2 and her NBC sitcom). She seemed stiff and scared on last night’s Daily Show just like she did when she started out on Attack of the Show and she eventually became comfortable and funny(in my opinion, I am sorry internet that I don’t agree with all of you. please don’t banish me). I think this might be a good fit for her eventually but she needs to loosen up first. Maybe allow her to do something that doesn’t involve four of the five best correspondents on the Daily Show. Also if you are not completely consumed with hatred for her check out the Jimmy Fallon episode with Artie Lange and her on it, it might change your slight hatred into mere contempt or better.
She was an entertainment reporter of some kind in Iron Man 2. She just shouts out a stream of sentences and that’s it.
She only sits with a fake smile in that clip from the NBC show while the Waitress from Always Sunny flips out over charades. Not the best example either.
And other than those, I’m only familiar with her being too self-aware in her ”hilarity’ on AoTS. She only ever popped up on my radar because she pandered to the nerds of America by dressing up in costumes like

and Wonder Woman

I have no idea how she’ll fit in on The Daily Show. I’m completely befuddled.
i feel it’s a bit like watching an SNL host surrounded by much more enjoyable players.. although she is very pretty
They should not have brought out the other people to make jokes and demonstrate how they are much funnier than her (but less attractive).
