I am happy to inform you that in just a few short weeks, Videogum will be celebrating its two-year anniversary. Awww. We did it? As a 48-year-old man, I don’t get excited about birthdays anymore, as they just seem to be garish markers on the road to death’s door, and is it just me, or are those markers getting CLOSER TOGETHER?! But we still wanted to do something, you know, 4 tha kidz. So, the evening of April 8th, three weeks from tonight, which will be two years to the day of when the site launched, we will be having a “birthday party”! Hey, you should come!

As you may already know, December’s Videogum Pizza Party was a huge success, and this is going to be even better. I hope. It’s going to be at Brooklyn Bowl, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. There are going to be drink specials, and hopefully some snacks (snacks are TBD), and lots of people standing around awkwardly, not quite sure how to talk to each other in real life. NEAT! The very best and most exciting part is that later in the evening, there will be a DJ, and that DJ’s name is ?uestlove from the Roots. Yes! What was that noise? Oh, just the sound of your mind shattering?! In addition to drinks and snacks (TBD) and awesome DJ’ing, Brooklyn Bowl is a functional bowling alley, so there will be bowling for people who suffer from acute social anxiety and need something (anything) to do with their hands.

And although this party is being billed as Videogum’s 2 Year Anniversary Celebration, it’s really OUR 2 Year Anniversary Celebration, right you guys? So please show up. Don’t embarrass me.

Details after the jump:

When: April 8th, 2010
Where: Brooklyn Bowl, 61 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn NY, 11211
Time: 7PM until Question Mark (see below)
Snacks: Snacks are TBD, jeez!

Click the image for the full flyer!

The main thing to keep in mind is that the party is FREE as long as you get there between 7-9:30PM. After 9:30PM, there will be a $7 charge at the door (for civilians), because when ?uestlove is your DJ, that is the way things work. If you think about it, it is pretty fair. So please just show up earlier. Easy enough. No big deal! Besides, that means more time for you and all your fellow monsters to nervously pretend to SEXT your friends about what a “great time” you are having so that you seem busy and no one tries to talk to you. JUST KIDDING. More time to paint, exercise, and party! Yay! Party! Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t wait! RSVP here.

  1. Holy shit, what?! ?uestlove?!

Are Martin Scorsese and Barack Obama gonna be there too?

  2. This sounds amazing. Why couldn’t your headquarters be in DC?

  3. I expect DS3M to arrive with giant flipbooks on which he can express his feelings through gifs.

  4. Happy 2 year!
    Ah! The cotton anniversary!

  5. If only I could ?uest on up there from Alabama. :(

  6. Although Anthony Mason swears that Videogum is 18.

  7. Conceivably

I could make the trip to New York.

    Inconceivably,

I could build a time machine that would fast forward me a year in time when I will be 21.

I figure I should work on the latter.

Now what did I do with my flux capacitor…

  8. I have school. This would be completely possible if my school wasn’t in Connecticut because I’m coming back to NJ tomorrow. Ugh, I am very upset that I am missing questo. I follow him on twitter and once I shouted at him that he knows my uncle!

(Once again Asher Roth was wrong. I hate college.)

    • I’m coming home from college for the weekend literally the next day, but if any monsters are at the Ted Leo show at Irving yell Tad Hamilton and I’ll find you

      • That’s great! Because I just yell/mutter Tad Hamilton all the time, anyways!

        • So I seriously do this guys – I’ll be on a crowded train, or with some friends out somewhere, and I’ll totally bring up an EXCLUSIVE Videogum joke (BC No One Else Says this stuff EVAR), like, “Well, yeah, But what’s up with Topher Grace?” or, “I am Totally Yogurt Cupped Today,” or “HAHA DIE ANTWOORD” just to see if anyone looks and is like, “Are You – …” And I’ll be all “Video-…” And we will hug? But it never happens. And I get shushed on the CTA a lot.

          • I do that too sometimes! Like, when I am being my usual uncomfortable self and say something awkward, I occasionally say “Embarrassinggum” unintentionally, which leads to my friends giving confused, worried looks to each other… But you guys think I’m hip right? Right!

          • I am constantly blurting out Videogum inside jokes. It’s gotten to the point where I just brief my friends [haha no wait I have no friends. I mean my brothers] about current Vgum jokes just so they have a frame of reference. That said, I cannot count how many times I have said “Relax, technojeremy,” and been treated to a confused look in return. #sighgum

          • I said What’s Up With Topher Grace in a rl conversation. REAL LIFE, GUYS. It was embarrassing.

          • I was joking around with a friend and she said something unfunny and then “wooof” and I flippedddd

          • most of the time i say things in the real world, and then see them on videogum later, and i get all confused as to who was the chicken and who was the egg.

but LOL because i totally say “Relax technojeremy” all the time too.

          • Also, when someone says “tgif” now, I read it as t-gif.

      • Jeez, what luck.

        • Keep trying DS3M’s Ghost! That’s how I met my real-life Monster friend! Also, I’m in Chicago about once a month for work, so there’s no telling when our Sliding Doors will cross.

    • Yeah underage college students from New Jersey who love ?uesto!

    • At which school in CT are you?

  9. Change of plans, you guys. Gabe just called me and said the party is actually in Atlanta at the pizza place near my house.

    • Yay! A fellow ATL monster! I hope the pizza place by you house is Elwood’s on Peachtree ’cause it has a good beer selection.

      • ATLiens are we. The closest pizza place to me is a sketchy trailer on the corner of Memorial and Clifton. The closest with a license to make/serve food is Grant Central East though I may be making assumptions there.

  10. Happy birthday, friends :-)

  11. Wow. If I get an autoairplanemobile from Scotchland can I stay in Videogum’s hammock?!

  12. Topher better be there.

    • Wouldn’t it be awesome if one of the monsters was secretly Topher in disguise? If I were him, Googling myself, I’d totally partake in this website that celebrates him as a demigod and do something like that. Fingers crossed!

  13. Can you set up a webcam, Office-style, so I can be like Michael Scott and wave from the confines of my desk in Seattle? (Yep, I’ll still be at work.)

    • I should have been clearer and mentioned that the Videogum Birthday Extravaganza will be like the Dunder-Mifflin Infinity Launch, and deserves such elaborate measures.

  14. though I won’t be able to enjoy this Pizza Birthday Party in person (though always in spirit, am I right Topher?), I will be forever lots of loving all over that poster. so good!

  15. according to google maps, i live 1,329 miles from there. something tells me that i’d have to get on my bike like a week ago to make it.

  16. Any of you Montana Monsters wanna take a road trip?

  17. Whats the point in showing up when reading the blog post about it is just as good? \m/ blogs \m/

  18. Ah, the terrible twos. That explains all of the recent Monster fights.

  19. Wow, I might go to this. It’s weird that some of you will see my face and no longer think of me as this worm! And I’ll see your faces and *mind blown, Scanners style.*

  20. Omaha Monsters! ROAD TRIIIIP! You with me? Or are we all going to the We Were Promised Jetpacks show? Did we discuss this at the last meeting? Does anyone have the minutes?

  21. What are all the West Coasters supposed to do? Will Gabe be live-blogging this event so we can all be a part of it? Like a big extended family?

  22. Who here is a British monster?!! UNITE.

  23. Flights from Chicago are temptingly cheap. DS3M?

    • They are? I’ve been reading and commenting on Videogum LITERALLY since the beginning. I’d love to go, but I know that’s not going to happen.
      :(
      :(
      :(
If DS3M could pack me in his suitcase (preferably without my being dismembered), that would be cool.

    • It might be cheaper for the Chicago crew to pool our money and fly Gabe to us, amirite? He’s not too fancy for coach, and he can sleep on my couch.

  24. It’s called “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” not “The Roots”! Jeez, you’re sooo old! It’s like you think everything is from some ANCIENT miniseries!

  25. SEE YOU GUYZ AT THE BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!

    • I think you should wear that shirt when you go Kenny Powers. You know, so you can distinguish yourself from the other monsters with grillz and diamond earrings.

    • Word to the wise: everyone ought to bring a picture of his/her avatar for the nametag. I’d like Kenny’s friend here to have a picture of himself wearing the himself picture shirt on his nametag, which in turn would have a nametag with this picture on it wearing the nametag with the guy and shirtpicture, ad infinitum. It’s good advice even it your avatar isn’t a picture of you wearing a shirt of you; if the pizza party taught me anything it’s that this is a visual learning bunch.

  26. This San Francisco monster is sad! I would have totally thought about going and would’ve wound up at the bar I always go to! Alone!

  27. Any TX Monsters up for a meet somewhere in the middle?

  28. I’m so glad this is in Brooklyn! Down the street from the brewery!! See you on Thursday, you guys!

  29. Someday, when I don’t live in South America anymore, I’ll make the “viaje” down for one of these “lorries”. I’m sure there are other Toronto Monsters out there to carpool with. Show yourselves!

  30. OMG I am so sad I’m going to miss this. I’ll be out of town on work. The pizza party was so much fun and this looks even better.

    BOO!

  31. What is the protocol for monsters who don’t comment enough? Eeek, extra awkward. ?uestlove might make this party a little too fancy for me. I’m gonna eat Cheetos in my sweatpants at home while watching That 70′s Show reruns.

    • The protocol is, There is no such thing as a monster who “do[es]n’t comment enough,” so you should most definitely go and most probably bring those Cheetos, as there may or may not be snacks, and with Cheetos you will be a Very Popular Monster.

    • Yes, bring the Mark Gormley sponsored Cheetos, but please change out of your sweatpants into AT LEAST pajama jeans.

  32. This is exciting, except I live in Cincinnati. Can we anticipate a midwestern tour for Videogum sometime soon?

  33. :O:O:O:O:O

Not enough smilies to express how excited I am by this.

This is going straight on my calendar! Official and stuff.

    • I’m sorry, I’m the most ridiculous cat lady already (and I’m only 29), so this is off-topic but is that your adorable cat up there, Brosworth? I have one (um, in addition to the one featured in my avatar — but I only have two cats total!) who looks just like this one (though I can only presume what lies behind the mask).

  34. Aww, Videogum’s all grows up. I will be there!

  35. start spreading the news, i’m leaving today; i want to be a part of it!
but i’m in kansas city which has a few songs sung about it as well but not in the cat power mellow gold style.

and while i tried to find the clip of Stephen Colbert singing Kansas’s “Carry on Wayward Son,” I could only find the whole episode (or for Canada)

But here are some more Kansas City ditties:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YdJHrCJfAs&feature=related

now please wait for this link heavy post to be approved. at least there are no gifs! yerp.

    • i cant believe you are wasted on the midwest.

      • I’m not wasted on the Midwest (or Center) because I appreciate it. When I was younger I would walk the block to the edge of town and watch the wheat sway under the most beautiful skies.

The east makes me claustrophobic: all the tightly grown trees and buildings and people…I find myself searching for places to breathe.

And yes, the people here can be jerks but people everywhere are pretty much jerks….especially Maine, areas of the U.K, Winnipeg and Glenn Beck. Most are nice enough and just trying to get through their day. It’s a lovely place. There’s a bit of a meth problem though…so…be aware.

    • You’re so sweet for caring about Canadians!

  36. Aw man, in America again? What is it with you and America?

  37. I’m almost twenty years old–I don’t need to be of drinking age to get into a BOWLING ALLEY, right guys? Come on guys. Let me go to this. Let me have this.

  38. I hear T.I.’s gonna be there!

(Sadly I am a Canadian monster)

  39. No

    Wisconsin monsters?

  40. Gabe, I can come, but my mom has to talk to your mom first to make sure an adult is going to be present.

  41. sorry about hating going into the city! plus thursday is when my stories are on! and also i have a previous engagement to be terrified of everything beyond my apartment.

  42. I might go to this from Boston. I’ve been meaning to go to NYC for a weekend anyway and this gives me the perfect excuse!

  43. ?UESTLOVE, WHAT IN THE. Oh my god I absolutely can’t get to NYC that day. IRREVOCABLYSADGUM.COM.

  44. I love how yall managed to get ?UESTLOVE, but no green light as yet on the snacks. Snacks must have a super hardball agent!

    • snacks are a headliner! snacks do not open for ?uestlove!

    • Alright, where are we for snacks?
Well, we tried to get meat, but the rider is obscene! 16 mauve towels embroiders with an M and with mayo on only one side? Four runners with Hormel jerseys? A bucket of warm ice? Even if we could get this stuff, we can’t afford it!
Hmm, have you tried talking to the other snack groups?

      • those demands are simply markers that easily show if the crew set up the stage according to the plans! it’s like you didn’t even read david lee roth’s autobiography!

    • where we’re going, we won’t need snacks?

maybe you’ll just have to do lots of cakeblogging and we can steam a live feed.

    • Also, we should totally bring back these “challenges!” Gabe should be working harder (read: waking up at 4:15 AM and suffering through the Today Show with a horrendous sign) for our readership!

      JAY-KAY GuyZ, GaBe u iZ d01nG @ gR3@T j0b

  45. So, we’ve got American Monsters… Canadian… British… Any Aussies on here?

  46. Maybe if I close my eyes and imagine really hard…

  47. If anyone’s interested, my London celebration will consist of finding a Soho pub that will let me play My 70s Show continuously – Go social exclusion!

  48. I’d be so there if I weren’t a broke college student with 9am class the day after this party. I’ll be there in spirit, and my spirit will be there eyeing cute girl monsters, only to awkwardly torpedo the conversation somehow shortly after “Hi, where are you from?”

  49. I don’t think you are invited.

  50. Lurkers, our time has come to unite and usurp the regulars posters! Knife Fight!
