Ashes of Time is a Wong Kar Wai movie from 1994, and his only martial arts film. In Ashes of Time Redux, he’s re-edited the film and remastered the sound and picture. It’s never been available in the US.
This film already has a huge thing going for it, which is that Quentin Tarantino hasn’t been within a hundred miles of it. Also it’s from the ’90s, which is when Wong Kar Wai was good. More filmmakers should probably take his cue and just start releasing remastered movies from before they got awful. COUGH. Woody Allen. COUGH.

you cannot say that ‘in the mood for love’ was not the prettiest chinaman movie this side of ‘hiroshima, motherfucker.’ i do agree that everything after that has been pooh.
