Kiefer Sutherland was on Letterman last night, finally opening up about his jail time for drunk driving. After some graceful, apologetic, responsible small talk about his “serious mistake,” Kiefer shares some stories about his time in the LA County lockup, including his response to a fellow inmate’s gang signs with two thumbs up, and (ugh), the absolutely requisite “dropping of the soap” anecdote. You would think soap-on-a-rope technology would have come to jails by now, and that after all that time to think, Kiefer’s Letterman prison anecdote would be a little more creative. Video here.

  1. every time that ‘the hunt for the worst movie of all time’ ad comes up, the one for Alexander, Colin’s hair confuses me so much i forget what i was going to comment with in the first place. Damnnit Colin!

  2. it really was disappointing, the anecdote. but that in general is what i think is kind of disappointing about Dave’s nearly-edgy show: there’s a lot of pressure to pander to a wider audience and just to stay alive on the air, sometimes the show’s just gotta give in, whether it’s Dave doing it or someone else, with Dave’s approval.

  3. Is it me, or does Kiefer’s smile look increasingly joker-like as he ages? Icky.
