Hopefully, you have already listened to The Ricky Gervais Show podcast on your Zune, because it is so good. But now HBO is making a show out of it. They’re going to take audio of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington talking about whatever it is they talk about, and they are going to animate those conversations (although in England they’re not called “conversations,” they’re called “lorries”), and boom, show. It will be like sitting around with some favorite friends chatting about the things that interest you. Except that your friends are British. And creators of incredibly successful mutli-national sitcoms. And they’re cartoons. And you’re not allowed to participate in the conversation at all.
Another promo and a couple of clips of this show after the jump:
Don’t worry, fans of the What Is In Khloe Kardashian’s Pants? show. With modern technology, you can watch BOTH!

We should all be so lucky as to find a show that we are excited to start watching in this world. The Ricky Gervais Show premieres February 19th on TV HBO.

Oh, so its not TV? Its HBO?
there are few things in this world i love more than ricky gervais. and you can take that to the bank, buddy. the tellers might look at you strangely, though.
So in this bank heist scenario: does Ricky rob the institution while the tellers are looking strangely at me? Or do I rob the bank while the tellers are ignoring me, cause I crazily tried to exchange Ricky to the bank for 10 rolls of quarters? Clarify, I’m en route.
so conversation is to lorrie as tourist is to poofter?
If Newton’d said that, I’d go: “hmmm, interesting.”
YES!!! Let’s keep using that Karl Pilkington tag!
I’m excited for this.
i love watching people make ricky gervais laugh almost as much as i love it when he makes me laugh. so much fun.
roundtable with fred flintstone
Karl Pilkington is such a mystery to me. I would love to see a pie chart depicting what percentage of his ethos is a put-on, and what percentage is genuine lunkheadedness.
the pie chart would be as perfectly round as his skull.
Ooooh, Chimpanzee That! MONKEY NEWS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fh4df1e2so
Ooooh, Chimpanzee That! He’s written it down! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOmeZtfAdvQ
How is this enhanced by the crappy Hanna-Barbera-style animation? “Let’s use their voices but take about 98% of the expressiveness out of their faces.” Perfect.
Possibly because that cartoon of Karl Pilkington is one of the best cartoon caricatures EVER, is how. Honestly! As though he weren’t ridiculously Charlie Brown-ish enough already!
Okay, but if their faces are already cartoonish (which they are, in the best possible way), isn’t the animation kind of redundant? I don’t know, I just think these guys deserve to have their real faces on TV. (Also, Ricky Gervais’s Nixon/Fred Flintstone nose is just wrong. Dude has a pug nose.)
Animated Ricky Gervais is freaking me out.
I’m so scared to think what I would look like all drawn up… horror caricatures from the Bar Mitzvah Hall of Shame are coming straight to mind.
Dammit, HBO! Every time I’m about to pull a “Vinny Chase,” (cancel HBO b/c of Entourage) you drag me back in! I suppose next you’re going to convince Gervais that 6 episodes does not an entire season make?
Wait, is that a laugh track I hear on the fourth clip? AND WHY?
Seems to be on the Late Show. Either that or that Late Show logo is terribly misplaced.
I’m waiting for the animated Steve Carell Show.
b/c its a clip from letterman.
does anyone know, is this a NEW podcast? or are they animating the old one from a few years back (either way is fine with me)
I believe they’re just animating the first season of the podcasts (which is why that season has been removed from itunes). Also, I know I’ve harped on this before, but any monster that enjoys the podcasts should do him or herself a favor and head over to pilkipedia to grab all the old Xfm shows. They’re every bit as good as the podcasts, and they’re free. You’ll hear the genesis of so many topics that reappear years later podcasts (like Auntie Nora farting for 5 minutes, Wet Knee Houston, big headed kids with webbed feet, etc, etc). They’re essential.
I have no absolutely no doubt that this will be brilliant, but does anyone remember that awful show Comedy Central had for a few weeks, a few years ago, where they basically animated band stand-up material?
I find Stephen Merchant so attractive that it almost brings me shame. What is it about a lanky nerd? But yeah, even though his animation looks like a blonde Harry Potter chimpanzee, I am really really excited for this. I love their podcasts so much.
I did not see this before I posted my secret SM crush. Let’s start a Stephen Merchant Angelfire website together!
There’s now three of us.
Sorry guys, I just discovered this:

Karl Pilkington is the funniest fucker ever.
True story: I once saw Ricky Gervais walking down the street in London in the neighborhood where I went to university (and where they recorded their show). He looked angry. I wonder if he was coming or going?
Can you Monsters keep a secret? I have a huge crush on Stephen Merchant. Gangly, beardy, glasses, accent? SIGN ME UP.
