Apparently, this 1998 SNL sketch, Action News: Hard Liquor, in which Will Ferrell and Joan Allen play convincing drunk news anchors, never aired. It seems like it could have been the genesis of the idea for Anchorman:

Catchphrase note: from now on, any time Total Eclipse Of The Heart comes on, say “This song is so true!”
