Last year, on January 2nd, when we wrote our first “How’s Our Driving?” post, things were different. For one, “we” actually meant something rather than just being a stylistic flourish that we only use when we’re making grandiose pronouncements about “the site”. But, while the future of Videogum in 2010 inevitably looks different than the future of Videogum looked in 2009, one thing remains the same: our desire to make it the Best. Future. Ever!
The most visible result of last year’s “How’s Our Driving?” post was the creation of the Videogum Movie Club, which is a great success, y/y? But this year I think we can do even better. Please send your suggestions for things you’d like to see on the site. Is there something we’re not covering? Are their shows that we are not watching? Do you have a great idea for a feature that you think would be perfect for Videogum? Let us steal that idea! What about for you guys? Is there a feature that would make your communal nerd cave a brighter and more enjoyable place to spend so many lonely hours? Give us some suggestions! Let’s see what happens! (If you don’t want to leave your suggestion in the comments because your ideas shame you, send them in an email.)
Despite some obvious and unfortunate changes in 2009 that do not even need to be mentioned or discussed because we all know how the world works and how sometimes it is hard, we (read: I) think that Videogum got better and stronger than ever by year’s end, and I think that 2010 is going to be even better. I hope you agree.
But in order for it to be great, WE BETTER DRUMLINE. What? Give us your suggestions!

Please no more Hulu clips.
And if you have to use Hulu, like in SNL recaps, a small description of the clip would be very helpful. Because some of us (me) watch SNL every week, and some of us (me) would like to take part in the discussion, which is a little difficult when some of us (still just me) don’t know what sketches you’re talking about when you only write “This was great” before posting the clip.
I agree with the first two comments! Also, I’m not sure if it really counts as a Videogum suggestion, but I’d like to not have to sign out every time I want to comment on a Stereogum post. Anyway we can just stay signed in when we comment on both sites? Just a little suggestion.
OH MAN. This. Goddamn, i swear my commenting levels have dropped by half because of this coupled with my laziness.
That is not supposed to happen!
But it happens to me too, so it’s not you/your computer.
Short answer: everything we use to produce Stereogum and Videogum is broken-y, and we are fixing it in 2010.
Even though I ask the site to “remember me” it never does. It says I’m signed in but when I go to post it says “oops you are not signed in.” Which means I have actually commented on 10x as many things but that my comments ended up being eaten by the site.
Whenever I look at a user’s profile it logs me out.
And I am very egotistical in counting upvotes.
Yes please, because some of us are not Americanish.
LOOK, I UNDERSTAND the problem here BUT IT CAN’T be helped that some OF YOU DON’T LIVE in the greatest FUCKING COUNTRY OF all time! BESIDES IF we start TO WORK THE fuckin PROBLEM OUT FOR everybody THEN THAT is socialism, AND YOU KNOW what pal? WE DON’T take kindly TO THAT KIND of talk IN America.
JUST sayin’. ALSO, hope your HOLIDAYS were fucking GREAT.
Agreed. We aliens cant watch them and feel left out *sob*
I agree. But again it’s just cus I live in Canada.
INTERVIEWS! (To give the impression that you leave your lonely blogging cave now and then, Gabe)
We should interview Topher Grace since no one besides him knows better what Topher Grace is up to
Or that he has a phone?
Gabe actually has over three phone calls out right now to people to be interviewed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8QZVqWP-AM
Clown Coffee of Corporate Casual fame?!? OMG I miss your comments. More Clown Coffee in 2010!
There should be a calendar for recommended viewing in regards to both movies and TV. I read my calendar so I can stay hip.
VIDEOGUM SPACE STATION MODULE!!!!
I think Videogum should go 3D since that’s the cool thing now (because Avatar).
track and display how many upvotes vs. downvotes a comment receives rather than just displaying that final sum
You also seek metrics!?! I have found Brethren!
Your icon is the best.
More Double Dog. Preferably involving Juggalos. Please
SPEAKING OF THEIR KIND: I played against a group of juggalos on call of duty mw2 and spent the whole match insulting their intelligence and faygo. They kept saying “lol”. i think it was their way of saying “ouch my ego”
Can we have the monsters participate? We monsters dare Gabe. Then Gabe selects a dare. The monster who created said dare must comply with a fully documented dare from Gabe. FAIR IS FAIR.
Each month, let the person with the highest rated comment concoct a Double Dog Dare for Gabe. I am sure that would be totally fine and not result in humiliation and injury. Not at all!
I would like Gabe to watch Bridezillas in preparation for our upcoming nuptials.

OK! Not the most popular opinion, but one monster, one vote. When Jersey Shore metaphorically sits up on its science table and strangles you- you, its creator- you’ll all look to me to save you. But by then it will be too late, and this metaphor will have made absolutely no sense.
More ventriloquism! Ventriloquismgum!!!
Books! Bookgum! Who doesn’t love a good book (except an ever increasing number of Americans?)
i second this!
Also, I think someone suggested this a while ago, but bring back Double Dog! We’ll challenge you! It will be great.
Also, monster stats. Like point per comment, responses per comment, assists(for funnier responses than the original comment), comments per week. Then we can have a monster fantasy league!
Whats a book?
advice column, please. where you give advice to real people. and some not real people.
Gabe already did an advice column in the past, called The Unethicist. Check it out: http://gawker.com/218930/the-unethicist-i-see-ugly-people
That’s not to say he couldn’t do one again, but I don’t see how it fits with Videogum’s “mission”
oh, i am fully aware of that. i would like to see it return, except have him give advice to the likes of, oh, lindsay lohan or whomever, as well as have readers write in questions.
Lindsay Lohan is that last person that needs advices
Second that. Votin’ it up. Replying. Find some way to be the Unethicist for us, here. Torture the concept until it is somehow (or not) video-related. It is the reason I am here, you funny person, you.
Less: Cats
More: Dogs
None: The Truth About Cats and Dogs (not that that was an issue in ’09; just making sure.)
YES! More dogs please, I want dogs to take over the internet, and not cats.
Gabe, you drive terribly, just like all the other septuagenarians I know.
A special segment all about horrible Canadian white rappers, like this guy http://www.soundclick.com/gbb (For a real winner look up his hit “Jessica Savoie”). We have more then enough to keep you busy all year.
Straight Outta Moncton.

I don’t mind all the Gabe posts at all actually… I check it mostly every day, I don’t read it all, but I read most of it… It’s a great way to stay away from actual work.
I see your point, Brad. We don’t want Videogum to get stale like Keyboard Cat……oops!
I jest, I love the little guy, but I agree that it needs to be mixed it up a bit, I liked the interview suggestion. And Double Dog should always come back. More guest writers; Liedman, Choi, Blagg, Zimmerman, Faceman, Murdock, Hannibal and Topher Grace. Perhaps get Glinner on board for a few posts?
But also, Gabe is only one man. So I realise a lot of my suggestions are unreasonable. But a girl can dream! YOU’RE THE BEST GABE!
Wait, you’re a GIRL!??!?!
2 long can’t read plz send cliff notes xoxo ty
i feel like you solved his problem on your own by taking it off your google reader. done! no more gabe posts! (i, on the other hand, would like to add videogum to my reader twice!)
“Lindsay’s unfortunate passing”? Oh my god. Then…who is updating her Twitter?!!
If I hear you right, and I hope I do because I like what I’m hearing, you are suggesting that Gabe concoct a variety of lovable characters, or “voices”, in which to write, and write each post on a given day in a different one! It will really keep us guessing! Who will write about Topher Grace today, former orphan robot scientiest Dr. Gabenstein Twist, or bereaved renaissance princess Gabriella De Lahey? Who knows! I CAN’T WAIT TO FIND OUT!
Doesn’t he already do that with things like the Kidz Korner?
Honestly, I have no real complaints or issues with the site. This place really is the best.
The only thing I might suggest is to have more opportunities for commenter participation like when we did the Kate Gosselin YCMIU contest, which was a great success. I think 2010 is going to be a great year for monsters everywhere.
also: a 4 day “Gathhering of the Monsters,” staged at the same time as the “Gathering of the Juggalos,” which should both balance the world’s karmic energy and ensure we wouldn’t have any Juggalos at our gathering.
GOTG: 2012-2
Gathering of the Gummalo’s
Abandoned warehouse in Staten Island.
Shit just got Real.
I heard jugallo infiltration was a HUGE problem at this year’s pizza party.
Wait, you mean you other monsters AREN’T Juggalos??!!
Only if Gabe records a 23-minute long video guide to surviving the weekend. Otherwise it’s all for naught.
RIP Ass Dan (aka Da Cake Eatur)
Combining (legally) my recent reading of Children of Men and the smashing suck-cess (kidding) of the Pizza Party, I am lobbying for the procreational interaction (no longer mere recreational) of the cool cat denizens Videogumland.
So, MonsterFinder, right? To be followed by 2.0 shortly thereafter with attraction points tabulated metrically.
I agree! But really, can we have a National (or INTERnational) Pizza Party Post where monsters can plan parties outside NYC? I know there are a lot of monsters near me, but I don’t know how to find them!
I wish you could offer us the most popular, most stylish and avant-garde shoes, handbags,Tshirts, jacket,Tracksuit w ect…Nike shox(R4,NZ,OZ,TL1,TL2,TL3) $35Handbags. That would just be a dream. How come no one has thought of this?
There should be an “Infinite Up Vote” button. Specifically so I can up vote this comment for all eternity and then some.
I am not so much a fan of the thirtysomething or Grey’s Anatomy recaps and am disappointed in no Project Runway recaps. Just sharing an opinion and not trying to boss Gabe around. That’s for his husband and more-prominent-in-2010-contributer Gabe Liedman to do (another suggestion)!
I forgot to make it clear that I think Mary HK Choi is still hilarious! Also, Vgum shirts/Gathering of the Juggalo passes??
Ugh, I have hate feelings toward Grey’s Anatomy, but the thirtysomething recaps are kind of hilarious, mostly because I never did, nor will I ever in the future, watch that show.
Don’t listen, Gabe, and don’t worry about the lack of comments, you are KILLING it with those thirtysomething recaps!
More Soft Gabe.
Lots and lots of Soft Gabe please!
Thirded. Motion Passed!
“If They Mated” Videogum style. I have no suggestions as to the formula of this segment, but I am pretty confident Gabe could make it work successfully.
Yup, more Double Dog. I will third or fourth or fifth that. (I don’t read ALL the comments!)
3-D Videogum.
Uhhhh. If you blow ALL of my mind, there won’t be any brains left for making thoughts! Slow down, Captain Inventions!
Starting February 2nd, at least one LOST-related post per day. For the rest of time.

I think most of what I like and don?t like is particular to ME rather than your generic reader, but here?s what I?m a fan of and what I?m not:
My favorite stuff is:
The weird, off-the-wall stuff. I LOVE that stuff. Dancing dolls singing about burritos, kids narrating their own storylines to videogames, that sort of thing. Stuff that only exists on the Internet and stuff that makes the Internet so great and that I discover only through Videogum.
Teen Korner: This stuff makes me laugh so hard. Anything Twilight related is gold.
Videogum community participation stuff, like the YCMIU contest and the ?caption THIS? entries.
Not so much favorite:
Partisan posts. Look, I voted Obama and I agree that right-wing hack pundits are sad people that make the country worse, but every time I see a Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh post, I skip it. If I see a post that seems overly political or partisan, I skip it. I like to think of Videogum as an oasis from the sad, vicious world of politics and any time I see a partisan post I wish it wasn?t there.
Television reviews: I?m not sure why we review so much TV here. It seems like a few things (Lost, Thursday night TV, Mad Men) are worthwhile, but all the reality shows and stuff seem like a bit of filler.
But I?m (obviously) a huge huge Videogum fan and if nothing changed I?d be enormously happy.
Videogum is my island of lost boys
ALSO, and I?m completely serious, more vintage clips from Italian variety shows. Like these!

Thanks werttrew. I clicked on the Marameo link and five minutes later the FBI confiscated my hard drive.
I totally agree with you, werttrew. While I do enjoy the recap/discussion on good shows (Lost, Mad Men), I have no interest in reading about bad shows (Grey’s Anatomy, Real Housewives). So if I may offer something constructive, how about posts on Breaking Bad and Bored to Death? And I second (or third or whatever) using more guest writers, if only because it brings back the variety we lost when we lost Lindsey.
Agreed. The Lost recaps are phenomenal, but the rest are really a mixed bag. What if Gabe posted a voting list of all shows that are popular (amongst the monters, not America[I'm looking at you Two and a Half Men!] and we can vote for like 10-12 that we all want recaped the most?
I need you guys to start watching Better Off Ted because it may or definitely is my favorite show on Television until Feb. 2nd. I feel so alone.
See, I totally disagree about the reviews. I actually PREFER the reviews of bad reality shows because I don’t watch them so it’s fun to read ridiculous recaps. Gabe is at his funniest when ripping stuff to shreds (i.e. the hunt). The reviews for good shows I could probably do without. I watch the good shows, I know what happened, I don’t need to read a point by point on the plot. And the last thing I want is for someone to say Mad Men is ridiculous because it’s not.
what i would really like is for the pickup artist to come back on the air so that gabe can hate it and i can love gabe hating it.
Whoops, I went to reply and ended up downvoting it, sorry.
)
But anyway, I agree, I like the reality TV reviews better, because I won’t watch it ever (mainly because I live in Brazil and we don’t get a third of the programs you do. I actually only found out Jon and Kate existed by reading Videogum.), instead of the ones I do watch(Lost, The Office, 30 Rock and stuff. We don’t have Mad Men
I personally really enjoy the political posts. When a crazy person talks about an “OLIGARH,” I want to discuss it with other monsters.
I agree. In that I agree and disagree with werttrew there. The Jeff Dunham best post ever was ‘partisan’. I like being reminded its 2009 (2@@9) and until there’s a neutral planet whose neutrality threatens us all, the political side of pumpkin head dancing is important to me no matter where i fall.
also: is there a meter for the vgum effect yet? can there be a scale of one to NYTIMES Credit for destroying dunham of how successful things are?
Powlsy I upvoted your comment! (I’m doing this new thing where I let people know when I upvote one of their comments so that I can get really popular on Videogum and run for student council)
In all seriousness, I think you make a good point about the world famous (or at least NYT and AOL famous!) Dunham post having a partisan element. It’s one of the pieces that I cite when I’m trying to convince videogum virgins that this place is much more than just Juggalos and slow lorises. Not that there is anything wrong with Juggalos or slow lorises. Anyway, I guess my point is that Gabe would be doing his writing a disservice if he tried to make it all politically neutral.
I certainly agree that Teen Korner is the best thing on the internet, but I love Gabe’s ‘partisan’ posts. They’re not really partisan though, right? It’s hardly a political statement to say “I’m against homophobia” is it? Is that still political? Is it controversial not to hate?
This might be a very weird thing to say (it is clearly a weird thing to say) but I kind of have a brain boner for Gabe. If smart was on an x axis and funny was on a y axis, Gabe would have the longest vector in town.
I like the nonsense tv reviews better, actually. I have a phobia of ever watching anything out of order, and consequently of spoilers, so I prefer to read Gabe’s take on things like Jersey Shore, which I am not in danger of ever wanting to watch.
Videogum TV. In a world in which Tosh.0 is a thing that exists, there is no reason editorial contributors shouldn’t present their own Soup/Best Week-style videos. We already love the Max and Gabe stuff. Honestly, why hasn’t Comedy Central called up? Maybe VG has to pick up the mantle on its own and post weekly vids. The writing is top-notch — and we know you’ve got the delivery.

If i may be so bold:
Can we have a Gabe nickname contest?
open our borders! book and video game reviews! these are things that people like
Gaybo
In related news: visit the fucking Link faygo officials site- it is off the wall (headphones UP!)
More Soft Gabe so we don’t wear out the Hard Gabe, who may need to eat or sleep sometime right? Because we’re so happy there are so many posts (SO MANY POSTS! happy shouting) but worried that H.G. is going to burn himself out?
Breaking Bad. Watch it, love it, cover it. It’s on the same channel as Mad Men, it shouldn’t be difficult! But seriously, everybody; that show is the best.
I feel like there’s too much love-hate (or love-contempt) and not enough love-love (i.e., not enough intentionally funny stuff). For instance, I haven’t seen anything from Funny or Die on here in forevers. I get that I can just go to Funny or Die, but it seems like VG is supposed to be, among other things, a kind of Reader’s Digest of funny videos (and I know that Gabe gets that reference because he’s been a subscriber since 1955).
I already hate myself for mentioning it, but I haven’t seen Hugh Jackman pissing himself lately…
This is the first time I have ever commented on this site but I have been reading it regularly for over a year now. I just wanted to state the obvious: Videogum is great. Funny, insightful, relevant… it has it all. As much as I love Gabe’s witty deconstructions of pop culture excrement (which I do love very much) I also really enjoy the posts about things that are good and worthy of videogum endorsement. It gives me hope for the future when I can see the best alongside the worst.
Gabe should take double-dog-dares from the monsters.
And definitely vice-versa.
I second or third or twelveth more Double Dogs. That and The Hunt were the two things that made me actually follow the site rather than only check it out once in a while when I decided to actually read an entire Stereogum article instead of just browse it in Google Reader and then accidentally click on the Videogum link in the corner.
Also, maybe we could come up with a way to do a Hunt for the BEST Movie of All Time? Maybe a more interactive way? In categories? Since everyone has already seen the best movies I feel like it could be doable.
Best Movie Of All Time. There’s only one, so this would be a short feature, and I think most of you know what it is.
Also, I love the concept of the 30 Something posts, but I’m finding it hard to get into the show vicariously. I’m sure something else would stick. Keep digging up those dinosaur bones! Irony is the best medicine!
Can we get a post that addresses the ideas that have either been taken into consideration or are going to be added to the site when this is all over?
im speaking up to defend the recaps. i love tv, and i love reading about tv shows i don’t even watch. but what was going on in september when you had a whole flock of people recapping 2 or three episodes of a show and then inexplicably stopping, never to be heard from again (with the exception of the return of soft gabe)? i liked those people. they seemed nice and i would continue to read their reviews of shows i don’t watch. i especially liked the lady doing the recaps of melrose place. its like you finally started dating again after lindsay and you wanted us to meet your new “friend,” but then they vanished without a trace. where did they go? i thought melrose place lady was going to be my new mommy. as a thrice divorced man in the sunset of his life, you should be better at this by now. basically, what i’m saying is it was really inconsistent and confusing. i guess i’m asking for more transparency about things like that?
COMMUNAL NERD CAVE, INDEED.
also, my request is for the Monsters- less gabe ass kissing, y/y?
videogum’s future’s so bright it has to wear shades.
More fleshed-out member profiles? I’d let to get to know my fellow Monsters a little better, and the commenting format doesn’t really allow for that, especially with no private message system.
Huzzah! This would be especially helpful for us newbies. PMing would be smashing?I’d like to share links or what-have-you with folks without feeling that I’m threadjacking… if, indeed, threadjacking is a thing here.
PS: Love the Bob Fossil Boogie!
i agree with this in concept, but know that my crippling phobia of someone in my real adult life finding out how much time i spend here and how many off color jokes i make means that if this becomes an option, i’ll probably make a ridiculously dumb and not real identity.
I second or third the idea of a BMOAT hunt. I would like to see more Teen Korner, Soft Gabe posts, and Pumpkinhead Halloween Dances.
pumpkinhead dance for president of everything!
I wouldn’t mind more video blogs featuring Hard Gabe himself (Soft Gabe, too, for that matter). There’s only the one from 2008 and SO many Alicia Keys songs have come out since then!
No video game coverage! If you cover video games I will kill myself! I was planning to kill myself anyway, but if you cover video games I will blame you in my suicide note.
Clearly someone hasn’t been playing Sonic and Tails Adventure 2.
Gabe, I would be happy to volunteer to do the DoubleDogDares. I’ll do it. Whatever.
I have more of a question rather than a complaint or suggestion: When I tried to send in a Topher Grace tip to the Topher Grace e-mail, my e-mail came back to me and said it was “unable to deliver it” or something. I even tried from another e-mail address and both of them came back the same way. Has the address been disabled?
I think we should be talking about Lady GaGa more.
Clear eyes, full hearts, Friday Night Lights recaps! I love this site.
Second the resurrection of Friday Night Lights recaps. How am I supposed to know that Coach Taylor makes MEN if Gabe doesn’t tell me weekly? Also, NEVER stop Top Chef recaps. I will lose my mind.
a gabevote in the comment threads.
My demands:
1) A constant download link in the top right hand corner of every page to the theme song to Gabe and Max’s 100 Seconds.
2) Less Hulu.
3) A unit established to investigate and possibly create real sticks of Videogum.
4) More content for the under 12s.
I too demand a download link for the theme song to Gabe and Max’s 100 Seconds.
I appreciate that Gabe uses his powers for awesome via Seriousgum. The posts regarding (my beloved) Rachel Maddow’s smackdown of Richard “ex-gay” Cohen made me decide to become an ex-lurker here. Away from the safety of certain sites, the internets juggablo my mind with the hate and the stupidity. It’s gratifying that you Monsters play nicely with others. Cheers, mates!
I like to stay perpetually signed in to V-Gum, mainly cause I’m super lazy, but also cause I like to be able to read a post and browse and vote in the comments without having to think about signing in first every time. Maybe this is just a “my computer” problem rather than a “videogum” problem (I’m not Professor Technology over here!), but whenever I decide to actually comment myself, it makes me sign in again? Which confuses me, because before trying to comment it appears that I’m signed fine and I can vote and everything? I dunno, this was a minor technicality complaint, otherwise Awesome Show, Great Job!
Also, someone mentioned this in another post, but it’d be nice to see some more British tv coverage! Which I know is difficult because North American accessibility and all that, but when I watched the series finale of The Thick Of It I had so much flail and !!!!!! in me and no where to turn to!
I’m with Mr Robots. I’m an avid Brit lurker and have concluded that nobody “gets” the “kids/tv shows/twilights” in blog form quite like Videogum over here in the You-Kay. Would be great to read Gabe or a similarly-minded chap’s views on some of our finest home produces (The Thick Of It and Peep Show come to mind).
Unless of course you don’t really watch any of it. In which case just keep on being super. (Y)
UK TV provides much needed anti-suck fuel that helps me temporarily escape the black hole of depression in which I reside. Y’all breed some amazing talent over there, and I am most grateful for it.
agreed.
Yes! More British TV is an excellent idea.
Bit of a tangent, but is there some sort of TV pen pal system? I have been watching more and more non-US TV (Kath & Kim, Summer Heights High, Dr Who, etc) and don’t know anyone else who does. This is a problem when I neeeed to talk to someone about it, both for “omg that was so funny” and “he is terrible right? I am not the only one who thinks this?” kind of stuff. It would also be nice to have people who live in other countries be able to recommend shows personally.
Mostly it’s so that I can ask someone “Is hornbag really a compliment?” and “Do kids in england really do that many drugs?”. I had to use context clues, with additional google confirmation, that “fanny” means vagina in the UK! I can trade you for real life American intel, such as “Yes, guidos are real!” and “Call someone a ‘twat’ in the us and you are probably going to get punched.”
Write back soon!
Cheese of the month club.
I know this may already have been decided between the smack-downs of The Jeff Dunham Show and Jersey Shore, but I would like to see Gabe tackle The Worst Television Show Of All Time.
Gabe on Sports Daily Roundup!
Bus reviews.
I can’t believe it took this long for someone to say it. Also, Videogum’s 100 Gadgets!
Gadgets.
Upvoting you, because great minds!
Ahhhh beat by one minute!!
It would be nice to edit my own comment to fix a typo, or delete my comment because I didn’t like how it turned out once submitted. I realize that there are benefits to the permanence of the current commenting submission process (referencing comments in other posts, not worrying about replies being left out to dry, etc.), but I think this commenting community is mature enough for self-regulation.
There. I’m done.

My favorite thing about Videogum is how you take inane new stories, uncontrollably pointless PR nonsense, and essentially the lowest dregs of pop culture, and you recontextualize it in a way that’s not annoyingly academic, but does offer a sense of insight that is found on no other blog. I appreciate when you go beyond the mere presentation of what is awful and what is sublime in the inescapable stream of media, to say something simultaneously profound and comical. So yeah, not much of a suggestion, just more of that please
Video(game)Gum.
Because as awful as some movie scripts may be, videogame scripts are (almost) all worse.
In the vein of the WMOAT – Film Sacred Cows: Where Gabe rips into films that are praised far beyond their actual worth.
I’d also like to see the Best Films of all time, but I reckon ripping into sacred cows would be much, much funnier and much more en vogue with Gabe’s sensibilities!
More cowbell.
I hope you plan on recapping Lost when it comes on next month. Personally I love the tv recaps but I love bad tv (except Lost which is great!)
Some one mentioned more comedy stuff and I agree. I always like it when you post those videos and wish you would post more.
not much to critique. i am pretty satisfied with VG. Please don’t stop recapping the garbage tv or the good tv, please keep up the random weird and or creepy internet videos.
more british tv would be great, but the best of of it isn’t new or currently on the air and their series follow an irregular broadcast pattern.
i like the idea of fleshed out commenter profiles, or at least a way to PM people, HOWEVER, that’s what the chatrooms are for (ahem, monsters, you have to do your part!)
and now the part that will get me downvoted to hell. i love love love the double dog dares, but without a nemesis/ buddy, they don’t have a strong enough context. the one upmanship is lost when the dares are one sided. gabe can’t really DDD us to do something mortifying, now can he?
soft gabe vs. hard gabe
Oh! Besides all the great stuff that’s been mentioned, I’d really love to have a way to be linked directly to the most recent comment on a post? Cause sometimes in posts with 100+ comments it can get tedious going through them all to find new replies.
Maybe a way new comments since you last logged in could be highlighted in yellow?
Profiles in Courage
Gabe, first of all, thanks a whole bunch. The site is amazing. Not even joking.
I’d concur with the above-mentioned suggestion to edit comments once they’ve been submitted. I think a ‘delete’ function would take the fun out of it, though, as everyone loves a barbed witticism thrown at them for an innocent grammatical mishap, right?
It would also be handy to have the private message/extended profile setup, but without this turning into videodatingforumgum. And possibly a notification when you receive replies to your comments?
I also miss Mary’s recaps, 9Oh21No and all that. And America’s Next Top Model.
And also, I wish that Mummy and Daddy would get back together, and for a new puppy.
That’s all. And I promise to be a good monster in 2010 until the end of (two years’) time.
Gimme a cutthroat, blaspheming interview with Jeff Dunham and I’ll be happy.
I won’t go on about how great Gabe and Videogum are, because the monsters have it covered and because it is just a known FACT now, so I’d just like to venture a question about the Videogum Intern? Has it been figured out? Who is it? Curious minds are curious! (And still regretting their decision to not send in a resume because life got in the way)
A lot of people have things to say. Some people have the EXACT same thing to say as people up the thread. To be fair, I didn?t read all of the comments either. They go on forever and I?m not Supergumman.
No to the edit button. That might not be a popular stance, but it keeps monsters honest. Even if that honesty is ?I?m too damn lazy to proofread.?
Soft Gabe is a keeper, right? And I hope he likes being kept. He?s too pretty to work.
I read most posts. I like the ridiculous posts. And Teen Korner. They make me feel hip to the check. I seriously had a friend post David after Dentist last week and say ?OMGLOL Have you seen this??’? and I?m like, yeah, a year ago SQUARE! To be fair she is from Canada and you know how far behind they are!
Some ideas: a How to be a Good Monster post. But what?s the answer to that? who knows?Maybe a ?Get to know a Monster? segment. Were a monster is e-nterviewed by i-gabe. It might make some monsters feel more involved since they don?t live in new york and can?t party with the pizza. Am I still typing? Boy I didn?t do my part in keeping this thread short. I likes VGum. teh end.
“…to be fair, she is Canadian and ‘David After Dentist’ was only on Hulu at the time…”
No complaints here, I’d just like to say that this is basically my favorite site on the interweb. Keep up the great work Gabe. Also more Gabe Liedman, that guy is a hoot and a half.
I WOULD personally LIKE TO see some MORE POSTS concerning FREEDOM AND America. AND MAYBE friend FOODS.
1.) Much more Gabe Liedman (as, evidently, bringing back Lindsay seems a non-possibility). There should be a yang to your yin. friday night fight 2.0 : gabe vs. gabe
2.) I don’t want to have to just randomly chance upon your other work through links in the comments. If you do videos with Max, I would like to be officially NOTIFIED, here on videogum. And you should do videos specifically for this site (why must you go elsewhere with your funny??? Is our love not enough for you?????)
3.) I’ve suggested this before : Alternate the hunt for WMOAT with a less despairing hunt, the hunt to Verify if the Beloved Movie of Our Youth Still Holds Up —which could break bad pretty fast, but could also bring the nostalgic good times
4.) A friendly reminder for the new year: don’t break the Tracy Morgan Promise, nor the Louis CK Promise.
Videogum podcast! Videogum podcast!
Best. Idea. Ever.
I’m a comedy podcast junkie and I can think of nothing better than a Videogum podcast. Interviews and bus reviews!
I’d love more trips back in time to old off air tv shows. Someone mentioned above more british comedies? Can you PLEASE review nighty night? That would be awesome.
Also VIDEOGUM FIELD TRIPS!! I’d love to hear about gabe taking a trip to comicon or some other pop culture conventions or even live tapings of television shows. Perhaps have some monster field trips too like on March XX, 2010 we will all request tix to the colbert report. Also free trips for Gabe. Gabe needs more trips paid for by video gum. He deserves it!
also…am i silly but does Gabe not comment? He clearly reads ALL our comments. I’d like it if he participated in our discussions. (PLEASE WORK MORE.)
You know those guitars that are like DOUBLE-guitars?
Maybe some Friday Night Lights recaps??
THIS. You know YOU WANNA WRITE about amazing SHOWS TOO, Gabe.
Anyone named Fumbles should get cookies
PLEASE no more SNL threads.
Also, a pull down menu of the recent posts would be nice, because I always find out posts I didn’t know existed through the “Previous/Next Post” thing at the foot of a post. I don’t want to miss even a word of Vgum.
I think the site’s more or less perfect. Just one request, don’t post anything like the ‘stuttering baseball player’ again. Videogum, for me is a safe haven from the ‘horribleness’ of the internet. 99.9% of the time you chose the right targets, the ones that had it coming, Seth, Glenn, Jeff etc. Hopefully it will remain that way in 2010. Keep on trucking.
i agree with someone up there who suggested getting Glinner on board , (the writer of the IT Crowd/ Father Ted) but im too lazy to see who it was. but as he seems interested in the site and is very funny (and very irish) should get him on!. You crazy for this one!
My main concern is that with vgum’s high quality content and recent NYT articles, that Gabe will be snatched up by the military industrial complex and all that has been built up here will be for nought. It would be reassuring to know that there are some interns or “apprentices” learning the ropes that will one day be able to take over the shop. (Call me paranoid.)
1). Radiogum (Videogum podcast? Pretty Please?)
2). Much much more Soft Gabe.
That’s all I can think of. I’ve been reading and commenting on Videogum since almost the very beginning, I think and it’s my favorite site on the entire Internet.
Problem:
I cannot sign in without having to reset my password EVERY TIME. I know I’m typing the right password because I “change” it to the same thing every time. What gives Vgum? Is this supposed to make me experience what it’s like to have Gabe’s old-person senility?? Because ENOUGH YOU WIN
