I suppose it is to James Franco’s credit that he was so unlikeable in this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live. All in all, it was a pretty decent episode, and he was pretty decent in the episode, but at the expense of his own charm. Like, there was just something rough and sneering about him. He seemed mean! You know that thing where people think that if they met a celebrity, they’d get along with the celebrity really well and probably become BFFs forever? Well, watching James Franco on Saturday Night Live, I had the opposite reaction. Like, oh, I bet me and James Franco would not get along at all and we would be Best Enemies. Because he seemed like such a jerk. Easily one of the top three YELLIEST hosts of the season. So much yelling. And spitting. There were at least two sketches in which massive amounts of spit loosed itself from his Why So Serious mouth and sprayed America’s eyes.

It happened again a few minutes later in the Christmas Tree sketch. Someone get some wadded up paper towel to shove in this man’s cheeks! That being said, the spitting sketch in question was one of my favorite sketches of the night. So.
Simple premise executed well. It is like a Nigella Lawson recipe, this sketch. Although the Twitter Award for Most Twittered Sketch probably goes to this one.
Get it? Men kissing. In general, there was a lot of man-on-man action both actual (James Franco getting a blowjob from Liberace) and theoretical (the dildo sketch at the end?), and just subverted sexuality in general (again, the aforementioned Christmas Tree sketch). I am not criticizing, I am just saying. #trends
This was great:
The show also featured two old standbys, both of which are pretty good. This old fan favorite:
Which I would have found a lot funnier if that reindeer at the end didn’t look like a SADDEER. Also, the recurring Lawrence Welk Show parody, which honestly makes me laugh so much every time. Tiny hands!
Anyway, it was a good episode, even if James Franco was a slimy-mouthed meatball. I guess I will continue to not hang out with him and not know him as a person whatsoever.
Oh, and here’s a Muse song if that is what you’re into:
Is that what you’re into? I don’t care. Be into whatever you want! No problem!

Sometimes I can’t tell if James Franco is really smart or really stupid.
since he’s supposedly doing “general hospital” as performance art, i would wager to say, pretty smart?
Personally, I think going on a soap opera for “performance art” is a check mark for the “James Fanco is really stupid column”.
well, since this isn’t performanceartgum.com, i guess we’ll just leave it at a personal taste thing.
“FOUR SPACE FOUR!”
The Digital Short Blew…. MY MIND!
There were a few good moments, but generally something about this episode just seemed off. “What Up with That?” was a letdown. But can they really top the krumping clown? Probably not.
Also, What’s Muse?
I actually had the opposite reaction, I got a sense that Franco is a pretty cool dude! He seemed willing to have fun at the expense of his image, and was pretty much game for whatever the SNL writers wanted. I do not think we can say that about most of the thespians that host.
And anyone who performs on General Hospital as performance art is okay by me.
Since when are thespians allowed on TV?

If there’s one thing monsters hate it’s a joke repeated, and repeated worse.
You know that raffle drum Franco used during the monologue? I’m pretty sure that’s how SNL chose its sketches this week. “Let’s see … the ‘Carol, hold my calls’ guy and … dildos. Great. Let’s go for it.”

I guess no one has a taste for the classics anymore #twitterIsNotClassics
I thought James seemed like a pretty cool guy actually. He obviously doesn’t take himself to seriously and is very willing to make fun of himself.
I still feel like the whole soap opera thing has to do with some crazy bet with like Seth Rogen and those dudes. He either lost a bet or is about about to win one.
The Digital Short is easily one of my favorites. “Jammie party, dance all night, now hop to the left and kill all the lights!”….awesometown.

I can’t wait until Kristin Wiig has her own show. In my house. Every week. With recurring guest star, myself.
Can we talk about James’ most believable acting being his tongue v. tongue with Forte?
I really liked this episode. But, that may just be because every time I see James Franco I giggle like a schoolgirl. Still, I LOLed quite a bit.,

In semi-related news, I was channel surfing (people still call it that, right?) last night and happened to notice the adorable Jenny Slate on the terrible Fox sitcom, “Brothers”. She was great! The show? Not so much. Or, not at all.
Yes! I so agree and finally someone else saw it too. James Freak-o disturbed me as SNL host this week. Also, ‘Snookie’ on weekend update was clearly the best, aside from jammies of course.
Yes, the Jammies thing was great, but I?m wary of liking these Andy Sambergy digital shorts too much because I fear I may lose my critical discretion at some point and I?ll end up laughing at some anti-jokey, totally randomy, People Getting Punched Right Before Eatingy piece of crap sketch and then hate myself Sunday morning.
I’ve had similar concerns, but I think our critical discretion is safe. For example, we can all appreciate most of the “Natalie Raps” video, but we’ll always recognize that the random Andy Samberg viking bit within it is super lame.
Also, I like to think Franco isn?t mean. I think he just needs some speech therapy. That way when we meet we can at least be BFFs forever or, ideally, be BFFs with benefits forever but really just until he realizes that he truly loves me and we elope in Tuscany or some other romantic location.
The tiny hands are indeed brilliant. Reminds me of Mr. Show’s Titannica sketch.

I find it weird, you criticize Franco when you use the same kind of shtick, acting like a dick but not actually being a dick. I love you and your writing, Gabe, but don’t be a hypocrite!
So what if he’s a spitter. He’s a great actor always trying to improve his craft. I’m sure hosting SNL is pretty nerve racking. Seeing as he loves acting, he was probably projecting his balls off. Not realizing a little spatter was coming out of his mouth. Don’t go all Perez Hilton now.
