Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen, the “poor” socialites from The Real Housewives Of NYC, have signed on for another season of the show to begin filming “imminently” and have hired a publicist to keep them in the news. Thus, there’s a profile of the couple in this week’s New York Magazine, and you know what? I think it’s okay to kind of like them.
We can all laugh at their kids’ pretentious names and the way the couple think Alex’s back appearing in a party photo is a big huge deal, and we can snicker when they say “Dickensian” things about their social-climbing plans, but if they weren’t nice people who generally live their own lives without putting others down, wouldn’t the reality TV editors showcase that instead of their dingy apartment? Yeah, they chase fame, but they’re so honest and almost innocent about it that their quest provokes neither admiration nor suspicion, just amusement. I mean, I don’t want to hang out with them, but even just in the context of the one show they’ve been on, not to mention the grand scheme of the reality TV universe, they’re kind of just nice folks. Oh, but this part was funny:
“Look,” says Simon. “I know who I am. I know what I am. I know who Alex is. I know what she is. I know who we are.”
Alex continues: “If somebody said to you, ‘You’re an umbrella,’ would you think you were an umbrella?”
But I’m not an umbrella, I say.
“Exactly.”
Also, the whole thing about Alex’s naked photos. But whatever, they’re entertaining and they love each other and it’s funny to watch the other socialites try and fail to push them down. They’re fine. Let’s like them.

The reason I love Alex and Simon is because they say what they feel, and they NEVER hurt anyone’s feeling’s, even if that person was cruel to them. Their son’s are named after Simon’s father, so I don’t understand what the big deal is. Unless everyone is jealous!! Bethenny used Alex last season for her ” Skinny Girl, ” line logo crap, then dropped her.
Alex was so busy, but fit her in, then Bethenny went around and bad-mouthed her. If you noticed, Alex did NOT bash her at all. She just let it slide as usual.
They practice what they preach to their children. When the ladies get together, you do not EVER see Alex start any screaming and cursing at anyone. She is to smart and educated for that. She is an adult—grown-up!! Not overly dramatic like the others.
They are the only reason I watch. I love them, and I love them, and I love them!!!!!
Wish I could meet them one day, and Gretchen Rossi from Orange County Wives!!!! These are the only ones, besides Danielle Staub whom I love.also. Danielle needs a second chance, like most people do. Caroline ruined her, and brought something into the light that was over 20 plus years ago, that she was trying to forget and move on. Caroline and the other ladies just wanted more air time and the attention on themselves, to be more dramatic. Sad. What goes around, comes around. Atlanta wives all stink. Can’t watch it..
So Santa, Bring me to New York, to see Alex and Simon, then fly me over to hug Danielle, and then straight on over for a Gretchen Rossi hug. This 56 year old would drop dead. LOL.LOL
