It’s not quite as bad as The Worst PSA Ever Ever Ever, but that one was made in the ’80s, before anyone knew what they were doing. It could be argued that creepiness standards are different in Germany or wherever this PSA is airing, but the tags really say it all:

Tentacle Ad Commercial Sex Sexual Child Abuse Trauma Metaphor 3d CGI The Vikings hairy arm disturbing snake nonprofit

“The Vikings?”

Anyway, if you want a strong jolt of ew with your Tuesday morning, and to follow the international ad agency battle for the most over-the-top public service ad campaign, here’s the hairy tentacle of sexual abuse. It’s way “metaphorical.”

If the list of self-congratulatory credits are any indication, the many people and agencies who collaborated on this are proud of what they’ve made. It seems like a straightforward “talk to your kids” would be more effective, though less likely to win whatever award they’re going after here. Gross.

  5. Is there any way to unwatch the worst PSA ever ever ever? I’ll never look at my grandmother the same way again. She knew. She must have known.

OMG….what a bad idea. I can just see the creative meetings on this: “it has to look like a snake, but it has to convey sexual abuse. I know! A snakepenis!”

HA! that’s totally the Chupacabra’s tentacle penis at work….

  8. Sorry Lindsey this is amazing because as grossed out and ‘inappropriated’ as everyone is by it, multiply those feelings by infinity and that’s what sexual abuse feels like. It’s not aimed at potential victims, it’s aimed at people who ignore that this exists all around them. Seriousgum.

I totally agree. I think the alien-ness and the creepiness were exactly as they were meant to be: to convey what you spoke of. This PSA is really good.
